Thermally Bistable Stiff Stilbene Photoswitches and Polymer Applications
Thermally stable photoswitches offer new opportunities for controlling polymer structures and functions under nonequilibrium conditions. This Personal Account highlights stiff stilbene (SS) and sterically hindered stiff stilbene (HSS) photoswitches, which combine large structural changes with exceptional thermal bistability.

A comparative photophysical study of reversibly RSFPs is coupled to an open‐source simulator to predict RESOLFT image quality from measured brightness, switching rates, contrast, labelling density and illumination scheme. Different image quality metrics enable rational investigation of the imaging parameters, supporting microscope design and probe ...

Designing Chimeric LOV Photoswitches
The LOV domain from Avena sativa has a C-terminal (Jα) helix that dissociates and unfolds when the protein is exposed to blue light. Using computational protein design methods, Lungu et al., in this issue of Chemistry & Biology, created chimeric Jα sequences that show photo-controlled interactions with chosen targets.

Molecular solar thermal energy storage (MOST) systems offer an approach to harnessing solar energy by converting, storing, and releasing it within chemical bonds. This study introduces ethynylene‐linked 1,2‐dihydro‐1,2‐azaborinines as highly promising candidates for MOST systems, exhibiting exceptional energy densities and extended storage times.

Structural Mechanism of an Efficacy Photoswitch Targeting the β2‐adrenergic Receptor
Time‐resolved structures from x‐ray free‐electron laser measurements combined with cellular assays demonstrate how the photoswitchable β‐blocker photoazolol‐1 acts as an efficacy switch of β2‐adrenergic receptor function. Light‐induced ligand repositioning shifts activity from inverse agonism toward neutral antagonism by altering local helical ...
