Fluorinated azobenzenes as supramolecular halogen-bonding building blocks

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2019
ortho-Fluoroazobenzenes are a remarkable example of bistable photoswitches, addressable by visible light. Symmetrical, highly fluorinated azobenzenes bearing an iodine substituent in para-position were shown to be suitable supramolecular building blocks ...

An optically activated cantilever using photomechanical effects in dye-doped polymer fibers

open access: yes, 2005
We report on what we believe is the first demonstration of an optically activated cantilever due to photomechanical effects in a dye-doped polymer optical fiber. The fiber is observed to bend when light is launched off-axis.

Designing Chimeric LOV Photoswitches

open access: yesChemistry & Biology, 2012
The LOV domain from Avena sativa has a C-terminal (Jα) helix that dissociates and unfolds when the protein is exposed to blue light. Using computational protein design methods, Lungu et al., in this issue of Chemistry & Biology, created chimeric Jα sequences that show photo-controlled interactions with chosen targets.

Fiber optics for aircraft engine/inlet control [PDF]

open access: yes
NASA programs that focus on the use of fiber optics for aircraft engine/inlet control are reviewed. Fiber optics for aircraft control is attractive because of its inherent immunity to EMI and RFI noise.

Photoactivatable genetically encoded calcium indicators for targeted neuronal imaging. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Circuit mapping requires knowledge of both structural and functional connectivity between cells. Although optical tools have been made to assess either the morphology and projections of neurons or their activity and functional connections, few probes ...

Ten‐Membered Cyclic Azobenzene: Electrochemical Synthesis and Photochromic Properties

open access: yesChemElectroChem
Cyclic azobenzenes generally exhibit enhanced photophysical properties compared to conventional linear azobenzenes, such as visible‐light activation and exceptional thermal stability.

Split‐Aperture Xolography – Linear Volumetric Photoactivation with Short Axial Dimension and Low out of Focus Excitation

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Spatially confined photo‐excitation with the lowest possible activation of the remaining volume is of central importance for high‐resolution high‐density optical data storage, fluorescence microscopy, 3D‐lithography, and 3D‐printing.

Ambipolar Solution-processed Hybrid Perovskite Phototransistors

open access: yes, 2015
Organolead halide perovskites have attracted substantial attention due to their excellent physical properties, which enable them to serve as the active material in emerging hybrid solid-state solar cells. Here we investigate the phototransistors based on

Stimuli Responsive Ionogels for Sensing Applications - An Overview. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This overview aims to summarise the exiting potential of “Ionogels” as a platform to develop stimuli responsive materials. Ionogels are a class of materials that contain an Ionic Liquid (IL) confined within a polymer matrix.
