Local protein solvation drives direct down-conversion in phycobiliprotein PC645 via incoherent vibronic transport [PDF]
Mechanisms controlling excitation energy transport (EET) in light-harvesting complexes remain controversial. Following the observation of long-lived beats in two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy of PC645, vibronic coherence, the delocalization of ...

Photosynthetic behaviour in cyanobacteria‐dominated biofilms on tree bark is very sensitive to water availability and vulnerable to climatic changes. ABSTRACT Climate change intensifies drought in several regions. Here, we assess how water availability and air humidity regulate photosynthesis in epiphytic cyanobacterial biofilms on Jacaranda ...

Long-term diazotrophic cultivation of Trichormus sp. IMU26: evaluation of physiological changes related to elevated phycobiliprotein content [PDF]
A filamentous cyanobacterium, Trichormus sp. IMU26, capable of rapid growth and high phycobiliprotein (PBP) production under N-2-fixing conditions was isolated. The strain has been maintained in N-free BG-11 medium for more than 20 months upon isolation.

Evaluation of the effects of aeration cycle and culture medium concentration on biomass qualitative and quantitative indices in microalga Spirulina as candidate for wastewater treatment [PDF]
Microalgal culture can be a combination of three environmental factors, treatment of wastewaters, production of renewable energy resources for replacement of fossil fuels and reduction of the greenhouse gas emissions.

Transmission electron microscopy characterisation of Spirulina bioplastics
Abstract Plastic pollution is impacting global ecosystem health. Bioplastics made from unprocessed biomass, including whole or fragmented tissues, are one potential solution. They are biodegradable and exhibit competitive mechanical performance. Seaweed and microalgae have gained popularity over the last decade as bioplastic feedstocks due to their ...

Model of intercellular functional coordination in Anabaena. Summary Diazotrophic cyanobacteria fix both atmospheric carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) into biomass, but the two assimilation pathways are not compatible. Species like Anabaena sp. PCC 7120 physically separate C and N assimilation in different cell types.
