Improving the Physical Exam with Technology - Point of Care Ultrasound [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Point of Care Ultrasound is rapidly becoming standard of care for utilization in real time medical diagnostics and decision making. As such we sought to introduce ultrasound to medical students beginning in their first year and specifically incorporating

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Transcending Big Bang in Loop Quantum Cosmology: Recent Advances [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We discuss the way non-perturbative quantization of cosmological spacetimes in loop quantum cosmology provides insights on the physics of Planck scale and the resolution of big bang singularity.

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

The relationship between perceived stress and job burnout of police officers during the COVID-19 pandemic: the mediating role of social support, sleep quality and resilience

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background With the rapid spread of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in China, police officers were undergoing higher job stress, which made them physically and mentally exhausted, eventually leading to job burnout.

Circ_0008035 contributes to cell proliferation and inhibits apoptosis and ferroptosis in gastric cancer via miR-599/EIF4A1 axis

open access: yesCancer Cell International, 2020
Background Currently, multiple circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been verified to act as essential regulators in the progression of gastric cancer (GC). We aimed to investigate the role of circ_0008035 in GC progression.

Dynamics of Interacting Scalar Fields in Expanding Space-Time

open access: yes, 2004
The effective equation of motion is derived for a scalar field interacting with other fields in a Friedman-Robertson-Walker background space-time. The dissipative behavior reflected in this effective evolution equation is studied both in simplified ...
