Lower peak knee joint kinetics during walking in patients with knee reconstruction for bone sarcoma compared to healthy controls [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
Background Osteosarcoma patients who have undergone prosthetic lower limb reconstruction following tumour resection walk at a slower preferred speed than healthy controls.

Supervised Versus Independent Student Laboratories [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
The purpose of this study was to determine if classroom laboratory time could be reduced in a basic physical agents course. Fifty-seven junior physical therapy students were randomly assigned to three laboratory sections.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Influence of Area Deprivation Index and Social Vulnerability Index on PROMIS Outcomes and MCID Achievement Following ACL Reconstruction

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine
Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction typically yields excellent outcomes, but recent attention has turned to how social determinants of health affect recovery. This study evaluates the association of the Area Deprivation Index (ADI)

Analysis of the Psychophysiological Effect of a Bull Horn Wound in a Professional Bullfighter: A Case Report

open access: yesTrauma Care
Goring during bullfights represents a penetrating trauma with a high risk of muscular, vascular, and vital injuries. Despite its frequency and severity, limited information is available on the immediate physiological response of the bullfighter at the ...

Comparison of the physical and financial performance of organic dairy farming systems (OF0146) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
This is the final report from Defra project OF0146 Two different systems of organic milk production were studied during the 1998-2002 period. The systems were established at the IGER Ty Gwyn organic dairy farm during the 1998/99 period. The systems were

Age-associated declines in muscle mass, strength, power, and physical performance: impact on fear of falling and quality of life

open access: yesOsteoporosis International, 2015
SummaryThis 3-year longitudinal study among older adults showed that declining muscle mass, strength, power, and physical performance are independent contributing factors to increased fear of falling, while declines of muscle mass and physical ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...
