Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 6, Page 1453-1472, June 2026.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Solving the woolly mammoth conundrum: amino acid 15N-enrichment suggests a distinct forage or habitat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Understanding woolly mammoth ecology is key to understanding Pleistocene community dynamics and evaluating the roles of human hunting and climate change in late Quaternary megafaunal extinctions. Previous isotopic studies of mammoths’ diet and physiology

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 6, Page 1591-1611, June 2026.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Physiological responses of children with surgically corrected congenital heart disease during high-altitude trekking: an exploratory observational study

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics
BackgroundChildren with surgically corrected congenital heart disease (CHD) are often perceived as fragile and discouraged from engaging in physical activity, despite evidence that structured exercise improves functional capacity and quality of life ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Screening shade-tolerant centipedegrass genotypes: Physiological and transcriptomic insights into shade adaptation mechanisms

open access: yesGrass Research
Shade stress is a major constraint for the growth and performance of turfgrass in urban environments. To investigate shade tolerance mechanisms in centipedegrass (Eremochloa ophiuroides), we evaluated 16 genotypes under 66% and 99% shading for 18 d. CP11
