A continuous physiological data collector [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
COP-DAC system utilizes oxygen and carbon dioxide analyzers, gas-flow meter, gas breathe-through system, analog computer, and data storage system to provide actual rather than average measurements of physiological and metabolic ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

LES of physiological pulsatile flow in a model arterial stenosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Physiological pulsatile flow in a 3D model of arterial stenosisis investigated by applying Large Eddy Simulation(LES)technique. The computational domain has been chosen is as imple channel with a biological type stenosis formed eccentrically on the top ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Modelling the Balance Axiom in Flow Theory: A Physiological and Computational Approach in STEAM Education

open access: yesSensors
This paper addresses the axiom of balance in Flow Theory from a physiological-and-group-based approach by a quasi-experimental study using mixed methods across two action–research cycles, each divided into pre-test, intervention, and post-test phases ...

Effect of Varying Hemodynamic and Vascular Conditions on Fractional Flow Reserve: An In Vitro Study

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2016
BackgroundThe aim of this study was to investigate the impact of varying hemodynamic conditions on fractional flow reserve (ratio of pressure distal [Pd] and proximal [Pa] to stenosis under hyperemia) in an in vitro setting.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Contribution of flow state to the discrepancy between perceived exercise intensity and physiological intensity during endurance bike exercise

open access: yesBMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation
Background The flow phenomenon, achieving a heightened state of concentration, is characterized by an autotelic experience, which may reduce the perception of physical exertion during sports activities. It has been extensively documented in sports and is

An Integrated Pulsation-Free, Backflow-Free Micropump Using the Analog Waveform-Driven Braille Actuator

open access: yesMicromachines, 2022
The widespread adoption of long-term organs-on-a-chip culture necessitates both active perfusions that mimic physiological flow conditions and minimization of the complexity of microfluidic system and fluid handling.
