Phytoene Desaturase: Genes, Enzymes and Phylogenetic Aspects

Journal of Plant Physiology, 1994
Summary Recent work on phytoene desaturases and also on ζ-carotene desaturase is presented and discussed. This involves functional complementation of phytoene desaturation by heterologous expression of different genes coding for this enzyme originating from Rhodobacter capsulatus, Erwinia uredovora, and Synechococcus and the enzymatic ...

[13] Enzymatic synthesis of phytoene in tomato

1969
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the enzymatic synthesis of phytoene in tomato. An enzyme system present in the chromoplasts of tomato fruit converts either isopentenyl pyrophosphate or farnesyl plus isopentenyl pyrophosphates to phytoene.

Phytoene Desaturase, a Target for Herbicidal Inhibitors

1989
Phytoene desaturase catalyzes the insertion of two double bonds into the first carotene in a series leading to α- and s-carotene. In several fungi this key enzyme is responsible for light/dark regulation of carotenogenesis (1). Furthermore, it is the most important target for many bleaching herbicides (2).
