Carotenoid content and expression of phytoene synthase and phytoene desaturase genes in bitter melon (Momordica charantia)

Food Chemistry, 2011
Momordica charantia, a tropical plant, produces a fruit that has a β-carotene concentration five times higher than that of carrot. To elucidate the molecular basis of β-carotene accumulation in M. charantia, the gene expression levels of phytoene synthase (McPSY) and phytoene desaturase (McPDS) were determined.

cDNA cloning and expression of the phytoene synthase gene in sunflower

Journal of Plant Physiology, 2005
A PCR approach was used to isolate a phytoene synthase (Psy) cDNA from sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.). A reconstructed full-length sequence (1598 bp) of the Psy cDNA was obtained; it contained a 1242 bp CDS, 172-nucleotides of 5'-untranslated region (UTR), and 170-nucleotides of 3'-UTR.

Phytoene synthase and phytoene dehydrogenase associated with envelope membranes from spinach chloroplasts

Planta, 1982
Envelope membranes of spinach chloroplasts contain appreciable activities of the carotenogenic enzymes phytoene synthase (formation of phytoene by condensation of two molecules geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate) and phytoene dehydrogenase (formation of lycopene from phytoene), plus a phosphatase activity.

Phytoene synthase from tomato ( Lycopersicon esculentum ) chloroplasts - partial purification and biochemical properties

Planta, 2000
Phytoene synthase activity in tomato chloroplasts is membrane-associated, requiring treatment with high ionic strength buffer or mild non-ionic detergent for solubilisation. Using a combination of ammonium sulphate precipitation, cation and anion exchange, dye-ligand and hydrophobic interaction chromatography, phytoene synthase has been purified 600 ...
