Ulocuplumab (BMS-936564 / MDX1338): a fully human anti-CXCR4 antibody induces cell death in chronic lymphocytic leukemia mediated through a reactive oxygen species-dependent pathway. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The CXCR4 receptor (Chemokine C-X-C motif receptor 4) is highly expressed in different hematological malignancies including chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).

Saccharomyces cerevisiae depend on vesicular traffic between Golgi and vacuole when Inositolphosphorylceramide synthase Aur1 is inactivated [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Inositolphosphorylceramide (IPC) and its mannosylated derivatives are the only complex sphingolipids of yeast. Their synthesis can be reduced by aureobasidin A (AbA), which specifically inhibits the IPC synthase Aur1.

Erythrocyte and porcine intestinal glycosphingolipids recognized by F4 fimbriae of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Enterotoxigenic F4-fimbriated Escherichia coli is associated with diarrheal disease in neonatal and postweaning pigs. The F4 fimbriae mediate attachment of the bacteria to the pig intestinal epithelium, enabling an efficient delivery of diarrhea-inducing

Synthesis of the cytotoxic phytosphingosines and their isomeric analogues

open access: yesCarbohydrate Research, 2018
A straightforward synthesis of l-lyxo- and l-xylo-phytosphingosine along with their isomeric analogues has been accomplished. The salient features of this approach are the utilization of [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangements to install a C-N bond and application of a late stage Wittig or OCM reaction to incorporate the hydrophobic chain unit.

Structural, mechanistic and regulatory studies of serine palmitoyltransferase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
SLs (sphingolipids) are composed of fatty acids and a polar head group derived from l-serine. SLs are essential components of all eukaryotic and many prokaryotic membranes but S1P (sphingosine 1-phosphate) is also a potent signalling molecule.

Structure and composition of sulfatides isolated from livers of patients with metachromatic leukodystrophy: galactosyl sulfatide and lactosyl sulfatide

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1974
The livers of four patients with metachromatic leukodystrophy contained galactosyl sulfatide and lactosyl sulfatide, whereas these substances were undetectable in normal human liver.

Modulation of the amyloidogenic pathway by a novel β-secretase inhibitor (F70hab16) from Malaysian Endophyte Cytospora Rhizophorae, in murine models for alzheimer’s disease / Richard Muhammad Johari James [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia. Until recently, AD is managed by relieving the cognitive symptoms without addressing one of the purportedly fundamental causes of the disease which is the formation of the amyloid plaques. The
