Phytosphingosine kills Candida albicans by disrupting its cell membrane

Biological Chemistry, 2010
Abstract The mechanism of action of phytosphingosine (PHS), a member of the sphingosine family which has candidacidal activity when added externally, was investigated. Previously, it has been reported that the fungicidal activity of PHS is based on the induction of caspase-independent apoptosis.

Stereocontrolled synthesis of novel phytosphingosine-type glucosaminocerebrosides

Tetrahedron, 1999
Abstract D- ribo -Phytosphingosine 1 was conveniently synthesized from N -benzoyl-D-glucosamine 3 by an improved route in which regioselective O -methanesulfonation and diastereoselective Grignard addition are involved as key steps. Using a synthetic intermediate of 1 , novel D- ribo -phytosphingosine-type glycolipids 2a and 2b , unnatural ...

[Fermentative production of tetraacetyl phytosphingosine: a review].

Sheng wu gong cheng xue bao = Chinese journal of biotechnology, 2023
Tetraacetyl phytosphingosine (TAPS) is an excellent raw material for natural skin care products. Its deacetylation leads to the production of phytosphingosine, which can be further used for synthesizing the moisturizing skin care product ceramide. For this reason, TAPS is widely used in the skin care oriented cosmetics industry.
