Segregation distortion of the alpha 1-antitrypsin Pi Z allele.
American journal of human genetics, 1979alpha 1-antitrypsin (alpha 1AT) of the Pi type Z is associated with two diseases: pulmonary emphysema and cirrhosis of the liver. We report 23 families with both parents heterozygous for the PiZ allele, characterized from our own analysis and from world literature sources. All families were identified through members expressing disease.

The objective of the present study was to review published surveys on allelic frequencies S and Z in countries outside Europe to evaluate the validity of the reported data. Studies on the topic, published from 1965 to May 2001, were retrieved using MEDLINE and bibliographic reference consultations.

The Gm‐Pi linkage in 843 French families: effect of the alleles Pi Z and Pi S
Annals of Human Genetics, 1990SUMMARYLinkage analysis was performed between Gm and Pi in 843 French families. The overall recombination fraction is equal to025 with a sex difference ratio of 1–4 (recombination fraction of 020 in males and 0–29 in females), confirming previous results in the literature.

THE Pi Z ALLELE AND AND HEPATIC ALPHA1‐ANTITRYPSIN GLOBULES IN PATIENTS WITH SECONDARY LIVER CANCER
Acta Pathologica Microbiologica Scandinavica Series A :Pathology, 1986To evaluate the frequency of false positive globular inclusions, 89 autopsy cases with various malignancies and liver metastases have been examined by immunoperoxidase staining of liver sections and isoelectric focusing of sera. Four subjects with AAT globules in their hepatocytes were found, all of whom had the Pi Z phenotype. Globular inclusions were

Storage of alpha‐1‐antitrypsin (AAT) has been found in a small number of bile duct cells in liver tissue specimens from patients with Pi MZ, Pi SZ and Pi ZZ phenotypes. The storage appeared in the form of intracellular AAT immunoreactive inclusions. On EM investigation, AAT‐like material was detected within cisternae of the RER and SER.

Immunostaining for alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT) was applied on paraffin-embedded liver specimens from 38 Pi Z phenotype (27 Pi MZ; 9 Pi ZZ; 2 Pi SZ) individuals (33 adults, 5 newborns). Histological diagnoses included normal liver, various forms of chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis.

Familial alpha-1-antitrypsin dificiency with Pi-Z and a new Pi-Gcler variant.
Biomedicine / [publiee pour l'A.A.I.C.I.G.], 1981A case of familial deficiency in alpha-1-antitrypsin connected with Pi-0Z gene led to the finding of a new Gcler variant partly deficient, the electrofocusing pattern of which, located between that of G and I variants, was modified after neuraminidase digestion.

The Pi-z gene in rice confers resistance to a wide range of races of the rice blast fungus, Magnaporthe oryzae. The objective of this study was to characterize Pi-z in 111 rice germplasm accessions using DNA markers and pathogenicity assays. The existence of Pi-z in rice germplasm was detected by using four simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers (RM527 ...
