Corrigendum to “Symplectic and orthogonal $K$-groups of the integers”
The action of the duality functor on the odd torsion of $K_n(\mathbb{Z})$ was stated incorrectly in [3], in half of the cases, and lead to incorrect formulas for the odd primary torsion of $\pi _nB\mathrm{Sp}(\mathbb{Z})^+$ and $\pi _nBO_{\infty ,\infty }

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Characterization of alpha-1 antitrypsin in a Pi∗ZZ patient with emphysema: a case report
Background: Lung disease severity and progression vary widely among individuals with severe alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD; Pi∗ZZ, Glu342Lys). In addition to low levels of polymerized Z mutant AAT (Z-AAT), this variability may result from other ...

On surrogate loss functions and $f$-divergences
The goal of binary classification is to estimate a discriminant function $\gamma$ from observations of covariate vectors and corresponding binary labels.

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Severe inherited alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is an autosomal genetic condition linked to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The significance of heterozygous, milder deficiency variants (PiSZ, PiMZ, PiMS) is less clear.

Optimizing expected word error rate via sampling for speech recognition
State-level minimum Bayes risk (sMBR) training has become the de facto standard for sequence-level training of speech recognition acoustic models. It has an elegant formulation using the expectation semiring, and gives large improvements in word error ...
