Subspace identification of piecewise linear systems

2004 43rd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC) (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37601), 2004
Subspace identification can be used to obtain models of piecewise linear state-space systems for which the switching is known. The models should not switch faster than the block size of the Hankel matrices used. The nonconsecutive parts of the input and output data that correspond to one of the local linear systems can be used to obtain the system ...

Piecewise linear systems in economic models

42nd IEEE International Conference on Decision and Control (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37475), 2004
We construct a market where agents make decisions to buy or sell stocks and bonds. Agents make decisions based on a convex optimization problem with a risk-sensitive utility as the objective function. The solutions to each optimization problem are piecewise linear demands for the securities.

Linear conjugacy of n-dimensional piecewise linear systems

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Fundamental Theory and Applications, 1994
Summary: A proof is given that \(n\)-dimensional systems characterized by a piecewise linear continuous vector field with odd symmetry and three linear regions are linearly conjugate if their sets of eigenvalues are identical. For this the eigenvalues in the inner region are assumed to be pairwise distinct.

Separation and synchronization of piecewise linear chaotic systems

Physical Review E, 2006
In this paper a topic regarding the synchronization of chaotic systems is dealt with: the case of separation and synchronization of many chaotic signals generated by different chaotic circuits and combined together is examined. In particular, an observer based strategy has been adopted, and an approach for the simultaneous stabilization of many ...

Canonical Forms of Generic Piecewise Linear Continuous Systems

IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2011
This technical note reports a simple, but effective strategy to derive a single coordinate transformation of a generic -dimensional piecewise- linear continuous vector field that puts both of its subsystems into the same observer or control canonical form. The only hypothesis required is that both subsystems are either observable or controllable.

Bifurcations in a piecewise linear system

Physics Letters A, 1986
Abstract We study two bifurcations which, because of the piecewise linear nature of the system under consideration, occur at the same parameter value. The three orbits created in this compound bifurcation are the principal periodic orbits of a homoclinic bifurcation seen in the system.

Noise-Induced Chaos in a Piecewise Linear System

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2017
In the present paper, the phenomenon of noise-induced chaos in a piecewise linear system that is excited by Gaussian white noise is investigated. Firstly, the global dynamical behaviors of the deterministic piecewise linear system are investigated numerically in advance by using the generalized cell-mapping digraph (GCMD) method.

Approximate Reachability Analysis of Piecewise-Linear Dynamical Systems

2000
In this paper we describe an experimental system called "ddt" for approximating reachable states for hybrid systems whose continuous dynamics is defined by linear differential equations. We use an approximation algorithm whose accumulation of errors during the continuous evolution is much smaller than in previously-used methods.
