Analysis of the pile-to-cap connection of pile caps on two steel piles – An experimental and numerical study

Engineering Structures, 2022
Abstract The objective of this research was to study the mechanical behavior of pile caps on two steel piles submitted to centered loading with different arrangements of the connection between pile and pile cap, as well as evaluate analytical models found in the technical literature. A numerical analysis of a pile cap on two steel piles was performed

Pile Cap-Pile Group-Soil Interaction

Journal of the Structural Division, 1981
A numerical procedure based on the finite element method is proposed for the analysis of structural systems composed of beam-column (pile), plate (cap) and nonlinear springs (soil). It integrates one-and two-dimensional idealizations for these components in order to obtain an approximation to the three-dimensional problem.

Pile‐Cap‐Pile‐Group Interaction in Nonhomogeneous Soil

Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1991
A numerical method of analysis is presented to study the behavior of vertically loaded pile groups embedded in a nonhomogencous soil with the pile caps in contact with the ground. The considered soil profiles consist of soil with Young's moduli increasing linearly with depth.

The Problem of Pile Group–Pile Cap Interaction

Géotechnique, 1971
Synopsis The Paper presents an elastic analysis of two problems concerning the interaction with the supporting ground of an arbitrarily spaced group of piles, embedded in a smooth ground contacting pile cap of any shape, namely the load displacement behaviour of the system and the load distribution between the piles in the group and the cap.

Simulated Seismic Load Tests on Prestressed Concrete Piles and Pile-Pile Cap Connections

PCI Journal, 1990
The results of tests conducted in New Zealand on prestressed concrete piles and pile-pile cap connections subjected to simulated seismic loading are summarized. The piles were of prestressed pretensioned concrete with a 400 mm (15.7 in.) octagonal cross section and contained spiral reinforcement. The pile caps were of reinforced concrete.

Nonlinear Buckling Analysis of Piles with High-Rise Pile Cap

Deep Foundations and Geotechnical In Situ Testing, 2010
To study the buckling stability of piles with high-rise cap widely used in bridge and harbor engineering, the advantages as well as the insufficiency of traditional analysis methods (e.g., the method using the minimum potential energy theory and variational method by treating the pile shaft as ideal axially-compressed bars) were first discussed.

Deep Pile Cap with Tension Piles

SP-273: Further Examples for the Design of Structural Concrete with Strut-and-Tie Models, 2010
Deep pile-caps are commonly used in structures. Two approaches, sectional design and Strut-and-Tie Model (STM) design are presented in this paper for designing deep pile-caps under a combination of axial load, shear, and moment that produces tension in some piles.

Interaction of Piles and Cap In Piled Footings

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1980
This note describes a laboratory-scale experimental investigation undertaken to study how the separate ultimate bearing capacities of pile groups and footings (caps) are related to the resulting bearing capacities of the piled footings formed as a combination of group and cap.
