In Vivo Study of Nacre Pinctada Margaritifera Behaviour in Subcutaneous Site in Rat

Key Engineering Materials, 2005
The objective of this study was to assess the behaviour of nacre pinctada margaritifera (PM) in subcutaneous site in rat and to taste the influence of sterilization on nacre properties. PM discs or powder were sterilized at 120 degree celsius in one bar of pressure during 20 minutes or with gamma ray or in alcohol (70 %) .PM discs or powder were ...

Shell layers of the black-lip pearl oyster Pinctada margaritifera: Matching microstructure and composition

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2011
The nacre-prism transition of the mollusc shell Pinctada margaritifera was studied using scanning electron microscopy, electron probe micro-analysis (EPMA) and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS). Mineralogical change is correlated with a change in organic matrix.

Sex Expression and Environmental Stress in a Mollusc,Pinctada margaritifera

Invertebrate Reproduction & Development, 1991
Summary Three different patterns of population sex structure that implied distinctive patterns of sex expression were observed in isolated populations of Pinctada margaritifera (Bivalvia, Pteridae). A natural population appeared to be typically protandric; a colonizing population on an off-shore platform appeared to be gonochoristic; but an established
