Combined osmotic dehydration and drying process of pirarucu (Arapaima gigas) fillets. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Food Sci Technol, 2017
The osmotic dehydration (OD) and complementary drying of pirarucu (Arapaima gigas) fillets were studied. Pieces of the dorsal portion of pirarucu (60 mm × 20 mm × 10 mm) underwent OD in a binary solution (NaCl-water) with the application of vacuum pulse following a central rotatable composite design.

Threshold responses of floating meadow fish communities to floodplain forest cover in the lower Amazon River. [PDF]

open access: yesConserv Biol
Abstract Forest cover is positively associated with fish biomass and fisheries yield in the Amazon River floodplain, and many species enter flooded forests to feed, spawn, or seek refuge from predation. Floating macrophyte beds, known as floating meadows, in Amazon floodplains support high fish diversity and serve as nursery habitat for many fishes of ...

Anestesia do pirarucu por aspersão da benzocaína diretamente nas brânquias Anesthesia in pirarucu by benzocaine sprays in the gills

Strengthening Amazon conservation through community‐based voluntary patrolling [PDF]

open access: yesConserv Biol
Abstract Globally, environmental crimes are a major threat to biodiversity and the livelihood of local populations. Community‐based protection of natural resources, which involves local people in surveillance and enforcement, is an important complement to the government‐led command‐and‐control policing approach.

Forest citizens and people‐centered conservation in the Brazilian Amazon [PDF]

open access: yesConserv Biol
Abstract Demands for territorial recognition are foundational to the claiming of rights by forest‐proximate people who attempt to conserve their forests. The rights of these often‐marginalized populations have been largely overlooked by conservationists, yet they are central to achieving people‐centered conservation. We further developed the concept of

Interdependencies between Indigenous peoples, local communities, and freshwater systems in a changing Amazon [PDF]

open access: yesConserv Biol
Abstract Globally, Indigenous peoples and local communities (IPs and LCs) are fighting for the recognition of their knowledge and decision‐making authority in freshwater conservation. In the Amazon, decision‐making around freshwater management and conservation has often overlooked Indigenous and local knowledge (ILK) and the connections between ...
