Thyroid Disorders Change the Pattern of Response of Angiotensinase Activities in the Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal Axis of Male Rats

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2018
Thyroid disorders affect the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis with important consequences on the cardiovascular function in which the renin-angiotensin system plays a major role.

The Pituitary-Adrenal Response to Paradoxical Sleep Deprivation Is Similar to a Psychological Stressor, Whereas the Hypothalamic Response Is Unique

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2022
Stressors of different natures induce activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis at different magnitudes. Moreover, the HPA axis response to repeated exposure is usually distinct from that elicited by a single session.

Sleep and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenocortical activity : biological processes associated with psychosocial adjustment during childhood and adolescence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
: Sleep and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenocortical (HPA) activity are two biological processes that play a vital role for physical and mental health as well as general well-being.

A putative role for the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) gene in a patient with cyclical Cushing’s disease

open access: yesBMC Endocrine Disorders, 2020
Background Apart from PRKAR1A mutations in a subset of cyclical Cushing’s syndrome due to primary pigmented nodular adrenocortical disease, the molecular basis of cyclical Cushing’s syndrome has not been investigated.

Modulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis of an Arctic-breeding polygynandrous songbird, the Smith's longspur, Calcarius pictus

open access: yes, 2003
To successfully reproduce in the Arctic, birds must modulate their neuroendocrine and behavioural systems. These adjustments include an attenuation of the stress responsiveness of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis to external stimuli and a ...

Recurrent Hypothermia and Autonomic Dysfunction Secondary to Shapiro Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 44‐year‐old man presented with recurrent hypothermia, diaphoresis and hypertension. Extensive investigation for infectious, inflammatory, metabolic and endocrine aetiologies was negative. MR scan of the brain demonstrated no lesions but revealed callosal dysgenesis, consistent with Shapiro syndrome.

Imaging dissociation in post-traumatic stress disorder

open access: yesBJPsych Open, 2023
Symptom provocation paradigms have been successfully developed to identify the neural correlates associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, especially dissociative behaviours, but have critical limitations.

The actions of ethinyloestradiol on the pituitary‐adrenal system of the rat [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, 1970
Summary . Single doses of ethinyloestradiol stimulate the pituitary adrenal axis of the female rat during quiescent conditions. . After a stimulus which releases endogenous ACTH, there is an inhibition of the release of corticosterone from the adrenal gland, but an increase in the corticosterone stored in the gland. .
