Discrepancies between isochrone fitting and gyrochronology for exoplanet host stars? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Using a sample of 68 planet-hosting stars, I carry out a comparison of isochrone fitting and gyrochronology to investigate whether tidal interactions between the stars and their planets are leading to underestimated ages using the latter method. I find a

Contact‐Free Human‐Machine Interfaces via Printed Thermopile Infrared Arrays

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Can a printed sheet locate and sense a fingertip without being touched? Fully printed, flexible thermoelectric arrays convert the infrared from a hovering finger directly into voltage, with no external power. Aerosol‐jet‐printed silver mirrors partially shield each pixel, creating a local temperature gradient.

Secular Resonances in Planet-hosting Binary Stars. II. Application to Terrestrial Planet Formation

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Continuing our study of the effects of secular resonances on the formation of terrestrial planets in moderately close binary stars, we present here the results of an extensive numerical simulations of the formation of these objects.

Rotation, activity, and stellar obliquities in a large uniform sample of Kepler solar analogs

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate, 2016
In this study, we undertook a deep photometric examination of a narrowly-defined sample of solar analogs in the Kepler field, with the goals of producing a uniform and statistically meaningful sample of such stars, comparing the properties of planet ...

Calculating Vsin(i) of Planet-hosting Young Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Constraining the spin-orbit alignment of close-in planets in young systems can provide insight on their migratory history. We can combine Vsin(i) with measurements of the stellar rotation period and radius to determine the star\u27s orbital inclination ...

Beryllium abundances in stars hosting giant planets

open access: yes, 2002
We have derived beryllium abundances in a wide sample of stars hosting planets, with spectral types in the range F7V-K0V, aimed at studying in detail the effects of the presence of planets on the structure and evolution of the associated stars ...

Breaking the Durability–Power Trade‐Off: Boron‐Directed Faceted O3 Cathodes for High‐Rate Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Boron‐oxide‐assisted particle engineering stabilizes O3‐type layered cathodes for sodium‐ion batteries by mitigating phase transitions and lattice strain. Acting as flux and structural modifier, boron forms submicron hexagonal platelets with (003) facets and expanded Na‐layer spacing, enabling rapid Na⁺ diffusion and mechanical resilience.

Metal Pipe: A Broadly Applicable Stellar Abundance Pipeline Using Isochronal Parameters

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Characterizing exoplanet host stars at the population level requires a method of homogeneously characterizing stellar properties across all spectral types.

Synergistic Optimization of Cathode Composite Architecture and Stack Pressure for High‐Performance All‐Solid‐State Chloride‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Composite cathode engineering and stack pressure co‐optimization enable a high‐performance all‐solid‐state chloride‐ion battery based on a VOCl/CsSn₀.₉In₀.₀₆₇Cl3/In architecture, delivering 169 mAh g−1 with 500‐cycle durability. Electrode‐resolved impedance tracking via distribution of relaxation times revealed progressive interphase and charge ...

No Signature of the Birth Environment of Exoplanets from Their Host Stars’ Mahalanobis Phase Space

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The architectures of extrasolar planetary systems often deviate considerably from the “standard” model for planet formation, which is largely based on our own solar system.
