Chemical abundances of planet-host stars [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2003
In this paper, we present a study of the abundances of Si, Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, and Ni in a large set of stars known to harbor giant planets, as well as in a comparison sample of stars not known to have any planet ary-mass companions. We have checked for possible chemical differences between planet hosts and field stars without known planets. Our

Magnetic Water Cleaning of Estrogens via Tight yet Dynamic Binding to Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Micropollution is one of the big challenges humanity faces with estrogen hormones being emerging pollutants of concern. Here, a supramolecular design strategy is presented that generates a simple nano‐adsorbent material to magnetically remove low‐concentrated estrogens from water.

Metallicities and Refined Stellar Parameters for 52 Cool Dwarfs with Transiting Planets and Planet Candidates

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
We collected near-infrared spectra of 65 cool stars with the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility and analyzed them to calculate accurate metallicities and stellar parameters.

Tidal star-planet interaction and its observed impact on stellar activity in planet-hosting wide binary systems

open access: yes, 2022
Tidal interaction between an exoplanet and its host star is a possible pathway to transfer angular momentum between the planetary orbit and the stellar spin.

Spatiotemporal Multi‐Omic Mapping Reveals Liver‐Muscle Metabolic Crosstalk in Cancer Cachexia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The interactive CCAtlas platform delineates cross‐species, spatiotemporal, and sex‐specific molecular dynamics and metabolic rewiring across organs during cancer cachexia. Hepatic Gamt downregulation curtails hepatic creatine synthesis to trigger systemic creatine insufficiency and consequent skeletal muscle atrophy in LLC tumour‐bearing mice ...

Utilizing Machine Learning to Predict Host Stars and the Key Elemental Abundances of Small Planets

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Stars and their associated planets originate from the same cloud of gas and dust, making a star’s elemental composition a valuable indicator for indirectly studying planetary compositions. While the connection between a star’s iron (Fe) abundance and the

THE ROTATION PERIOD OF THE PLANET-HOSTING STAR HD 189733

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2007
We present synoptic optical photometry of HD 189733, the chromospherically active parent star of one of the most intensively studied exoplanets. We have significantly extended the timespan of our previously reported observations and refined the estimate of the stellar rotation period by more than an order of magnitude: $P = 11.953\pm 0.009$ days.

Expanding Genetic Code to Generate Human Brain Organoids with Both Vasculature and Microglia‐Like Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using genetic code expansion, we engineered vascularized human cerebral organoids (vhCOs) with microglia‐like cells and blood‐brain barrier features. vhCOs recapitulate neurovascular interactions, regional identities, and neuronal subtypes resembling the fetal brain.

Host–Non-host Differences in Stellar Chemistry, Activity, and Birth Radius: Hints of Distinct Formation Environments for Earth-like Planets and Sub-Neptunes

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Host-star properties provide important clues to planet formation and evolution, yet it remains unclear whether the observed differences between planet-hosting stars and stars without detected planets reflect genuine signatures of planet formation or ...

The Densities of Planets and the Masses of Host Stars

open access: yes, 2013
Studies of transiting extra-solar planets are of key importance for understanding the nature of planets outside our Solar System, because their densities can be determined, constraining of what the planets are made of. Using the data obtained by the CoRoT space telescope we study the relation between the density of planets, their mass, and the mass of ...
