Ancient planetary systems are orbiting a large fraction of white dwarf stars

open access: yes, 2010
Infrared studies have revealed debris likely related to planet formation in orbit around ~30% of youthful, intermediate mass, main sequence stars.

Tandem planet formation for solar system-like planetary systems

open access: yesGeoscience Frontiers, 2017
AbstractWe present a new united theory of planet formation, which includes magneto-rotational instability (MRI) and porous aggregation of solid particles in a consistent way. We show that the “tandem planet formation” regime is likely to result in solar system-like planetary systems.

Shaping Carbon Nitrides for Advanced Macrostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review examines how carbon nitride can be shaped through a range of printing and interfacial assembly methods. By bringing together additive manufacturing and liquid–liquid structuring concepts, carbon nitride is moving beyond its traditional powder‐based photocatalyst form toward digitally designed robust macroscale architectures with high design

Diversity in Planetary Architectures from Pebble Accretion: Water Delivery to the Habitable Zone with Pebble Snow

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
“Pebble snow” describes a planet formation mechanism where icy pebbles in the outer disk reach inner planet embryos as the water-ice line evolves inward.

Wet Ball Milling Synthesis of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles for High‐Efficiency, Controllable Magnetic Hyperthermia in Ovarian Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A wet ball‐milling method is presented to synthesize iron magnetic nanoparticles and evaluate their magnetic hyperthermia performance. Optimized particles (∼270 nm, Ms ∼114 emu/g) achieve ∼50°C heating under clinically safe alternating magnetic fields, while pulsed‐field operation enables controlled temperature regulation (∼30°C).

MIRI MRS Observations of Beta Pictoris. II. The Spectroscopic Case for a Recent Giant Collision

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Modeling observations of the archetypal debris disk around β Pic, obtained in 2023 January with the MIRI Medium Resolution Spectrograph on board JWST, reveals significant differences compared with that obtained with the Infrared Spectrograph on board ...

Fully 3D‐Printed Wave‐Wound Electromagnetic Motors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work presents the first fully 3D‐printed wave‐wound electromagnetic motors, which are created using conductive nanoparticle inks, carbon‐filled nylon polymers, and surface mount components. These motors can achieve a stall torque of 7.62N·mmA−1$7.62 \nobreakspace N{\cdot }mm A^{-1}$ and efficiency of 28.2 %, which approaches the performance of ...

Micromachined Double‐Membrane Mechanically Tunable Metamaterial for Thermal Infrared Filtering

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2025.
Herein, a mechanically tunable double‐layer plasmonic metamaterial leveraging the extraordinary optical transmission effect observed in subwavelength arrays of openings within thin metal layers is presented. The concept is experimentally validated by integrating the proposed metamaterial structure into an electrostatic parallel‐plate actuator to create

Planetary Architectures of Kepler Compact Multiplanet Systems with Binary-star Companions

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Planets in binary-star systems exhibit demographic differences compared to planets in single-star systems. In particular, planets with binary-star hosts have a lower overall occurrence rate compared to their single-star counterparts, as well as a ...
