Rain events at maturity severely impact the seed quality of psyllium (Plantago ovata Forssk.)

open access: yesJournal of Agronomy and Crop Science, 2022
Abstract Plantago ovata Forssk. is an emerging crop yielding psyllium husk, a material comprised of hydrophilic polysaccharides that form mucilage upon wetting. Psyllium husk has important industrial uses including as a dietary fibre supplement and a textural alternative in gluten‐free bread production.

Effects of soluble fiber (Plantago ovata husk) on plasma lipids, lipoproteins, and apolipoproteins in men with ischemic heart disease.

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2007
Background: New dietary strategies to reduce cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk include the addition of fiber to the diet. The effect of soluble-fiber consumption derived from Plantago ovata husk on lipid risk factors in patients with CVD is unknown ...

The hydrosoluble fiber Plantago ovata husk improves levodopa (with carbidopa) bioavailability after repeated administration

open access: yesJournal of the Neurological Sciences, 2008
The influence of treatment duration (7 or 14 days) with Plantago ovata husk/levodopa/carbidopa in the bioavailability and other pharmacokinetic parameters of levodopa were evaluated in rabbits. Fiber was administered at two different doses, 100 and 400 mg/kg, and the dosage of levodopa/carbidopa was 20:5 mg/kg. These doses were administered once a day.

Regulation mechanism of myofibrillar protein emulsification mode by adding psyllium (Plantago ovata) husk

Food Chemistry, 2022
Psyllium husk (PH) is an excellent source of dietary fiber with strong water-absorption and viscosity. This work systemically investigated the regulation mechanism of myofibrillar protein (MP) emulsification mode by adding psyllium husk as composite emulsifiers to prepare O/W emulsions.

Isolation, characterization and investigation of Plantago ovata husk polysaccharide as superdisintegrant

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2014
Psyllium husk (Plantago ovata, Family: Plantaginaceae) contains a high proportion of hemicellulose, composed of a xylan backbone linked with arabinose, rhamnose, and galacturonic acid units (arabinoxylans). Polysaccharide was isolated from Psyllium husk using solvent precipitation method.
