Structure characterization and carboxymethylation of arabinoxylan isolated from Ispaghula (Plantago ovata) seed husk

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2008
Abstract As revealed by NMR spectroscopy (after ultrasonic degradation) and HPLC (after total hydrolysis) an arabinoxylan (AX) containing 74.8% Xyl p and 23.2% Ara f was isolated from Ispaghula ( Plantago ovata ) by soaking the seed husk with water, extraction with aqueous sodium hydroxide and coagulation with acetic acid.

Extractability and chemical and enzymic degradation of psyllium (Plantago ovata Forsk) seed husk arabinoxylans

Food Chemistry, 2009
Abstract To assess the potential of arabinoxylan (AX)-rich psyllium (Plantago ovata Forsk) seed husk (PSH) as a source for production of arabinoxylo-oligosaccharides (AXOS), the parameters determining PSH AX extraction yield and the chemical and enzymic hydrolysis of PSH AX were investigated.

Acute toxicity studies of a novel excipient arabinoxylan isolated from Ispaghula (Plantago ovata) husk

Drug and Chemical Toxicology, 2014
The arabinoxylan from Ispaghula (Plantago ovata) husk has been proven scientifically as potential excipient. However, toxicity study of the arabinoxylan is still lacking. The present study was done to investigate the acute toxicity of arabinoxylan in two animal species. The mice were exposed to (1 g/kg, 5 g/kg, 10 g/kg) and rabbits (2.5 g/kg, 5 g/kg) of

Preliminary phytochemical screening unveils the pharmaceutical potential of Plantago ovata (Psyllium Husk)

Drug and Pharmaceutical Science Archives
A third to a half of the currently used commercial drugs are of plant origin and were once just a research trial. Besides, herbal medicine is believed to be readily available and safe. Not to mention the structural diversity of the herbal biomolecules that is still greatly untapped and is promising if further studied.

Physicochemical, scavenging and anti-proliferative analyses of polysaccharides extracted from psyllium (Plantago ovata Forssk) husk and seeds

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2019
Polysaccharides extracted from seeds and husk of psyllium were characterized for different physicochemical characteristics, and bioactivities. Extracted polysaccharides are comprised of d-xylose, l-arabinose, d-glucose, d-galactose, and l-rhamnose. Crude husk-polysaccharide was crystalline, whereas rest was amorphous in nature.

Development of a stable low-fat yogurt gel using functionality of psyllium ( Plantago ovata Forsk) husk gum

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2015
Psyllium husk gum (PHG) as an ideal fat replacer was utilized to improve the production of an industrial low-fat yogurt gel. The combined effects of critical structural components (PHG concentration (0.072-0.128%) and fat content (0.29-1.71%)) on the textural (firmness and syneresis), rheological (viscosity), and chemical (pH and total titratable ...

Physicochemical characterization and evaluation of suspending properties of arabinoxylan from Ispaghula (Plantago ovata) husk.

Pakistan journal of pharmaceutical sciences, 2015
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of arabinoxylan as potential suspending agent, an effective alternative to commercially used excipients for the preparation of pharmaceutical suspensions. Alkali extraction was done to separate arabinoxylan from ispaghula (Plantago ovata) seed husk by alkali extraction its physicochemical ...
