Fundamentals and applications of the combination of plasma nitrocarburizing and oxidizing
Surface and Coatings Technology, 1998With the so-called IONIT®OX process, a combined plasma nitrocarburizing and oxidizing, iron based materials, especially non-alloyed steel, had been treated. It is shown that the oxidation of the nitrocarburized layers lead to a significant improvement of the corrosion resistance.

Effect of electrolyte depletion on characteristics of anodic plasma electrolytic nitrocarburizing
Surface Engineering and Applied Electrochemistry, 2015This article considers changes in the composition of aqueous electrolytes containing ammonia chloride and urea during plasma electrolytic nitrocarburizing of low-carbon steels. The main purpose is the identification of the transport mechanism of nitrogen and carbon atoms movement from the urea into treated low-carbon steel. The effect of changes in the

Plasma Nitriding and Nitrocarburizing of Austempered S.G. Cast Iron
1990The effects of varying austempering parameters on the response of S.G. cast iron to plasma nitriding and nitrocarburizing was studied. The ideal austempered microstructure of bainite and austenite yielded poor compound layers and the shallowest case depth.

Electrolyte–electrode interface and surface characterization of plasma electrolytic nitrocarburizing
Surface and Coatings Technology, 2013Abstract A plasma electrolytic nitrocarburizing (PEN/C) process was performed on the Q235 steel in an aqueous solution of urea to modify the surface properties. The decomposing particles of organic compounds in the electrolyte adjacent to the electrode were obtained using ultraviolet spectrum during the process.

Effect of CH4 addition on plasma nitrocarburizing of austenitic stainless steel
Surface and Coatings Technology, 2003Abstract This article evaluates the influence of the plasma atmosphere composed of different ratios of N2/H2/CH4 on the micro-structures, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of 304L and 316L austenitic stainless steels. DC power with a bias voltage in the range of 250–350 V was applied between the vessel (anode) and the work (cathode).

Features of electrolytic-plasma nitrocarburizing of steel with a relief surface
Physics and chemistry of materials treatmentAnodic electrolytic-plasma nitrocarburizing of corrosion-resistant steel proceeds many times faster than a similar process without gas discharges. A feature of such processing of samples with a rough surface is a significant dependence of the thickness of the layer saturated with nitrogen and carbon on the relief area. In depressions and on slopes, the

Plasma post oxidation of nitrocarburized AISI 4140 steel
Rare Metals, 2006Abstract Plasma nitrocarburizing and plasma oxidizing treatments were performed to improve the wear and corrosion resistance of AISI 4140 steel. Plasma nitrocarburizing was conducted for 3 h at 570 °C in the nitrogen, hydrogen and methane atmosphere to produce the ɛ-Fe 2–3 (N, C) phase.

Plasma post oxidation of nitrocarburized hot work steel samples
Surface and Coatings Technology, 2004Abstract Pulse plasma oxidation of untreated, salt bath nitrocarburized and plasma nitrided/nitrocarburized samples made of hot work steel grade H11 was investigated. A continuous multi-step plasma processing was performed consisting of a half an hour plasma nitriding at 520 °C followed by 3.5 h nitrocarburizing at the same temperature and by a ...
