Evaluation of Physical Characteristics of Edible film from Bligon Goat Skin Gelatin using Glycerol as Plasticizer

open access: yesJurnal Ilmu dan Teknologi Hasil Ternak, 2014
The use of glycerol as a plasticizer in the film solution mixture was identified to the physical properties of edible film. The objectives of this study was to evaluate the physical characteristics of edible films using gelatin from Bligon goat skin as a

On the path to a new generation of cement-based composites through the use of lignocellulosic micro/nanofibers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Due to its high biocompatibility, bio-degradability, and low cost, cellulose finds application in disparate areas of research. Here we focus our attention on the potential applications of cellulose nanofiber in cement-basedmaterials for the building ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Permeability studies of Damar Batu free films for transdermal application [PDF]

open access: yesChemical Industry and Chemical Engineering Quarterly, 2009
Damar Batu (DB) looks like stone with black or dark brown color inside. Due to its film forming ability it is used in the manufacture of paper, wood, varnishes, lacquers, polishes and additives for beverages. In the present study the permeability of free

Mechanical properties of plastics predetermined by empirical method [PDF]

open access: yes, 1964
To predetermine the mechanical properties of rigid plastics as a function of plasticizer content and composition, a set of equations has been empirically derived.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

A variety of environmentally persistent chemicals, including some phthalate plasticizers, are weakly estrogenic [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Sewage, a complex mixture of organic and inorganic chemicals, is considered to be a major source of environmental pollution. A random screen of 20 organic man-made chemicals present in liquid effluents revealed that half appeared able to interact with ...

The Impact of Plasticizer and Degree of Hydrolysis on Free Volume of Poly(vinyl alcohol) Films

open access: yesPolymers, 2018
The effect of plasticizer species and the degree of hydrolysis (DH) on the free volume properties of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) were studied using positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy.

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...
