Biomechanical comparison of four different internal fixation constructs applied to stabilise Letenneur type I Hoffa fractures: a finite element analysis

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders
Objective To simulate and compare the biomechanical characteristics of different internal fixation constructs for treating Letenneur type I Hoffa fractures via finite element analysis to establish a theoretical foundation for selecting a fixation method ...

Pharmacological chromatin remodeling enhances response to estrogen therapy in ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Estrogen therapy elicits clinical benefit in ~ 30% of patients with endocrine‐resistant estrogen receptor (ER)‐positive breast cancer. Based on findings that ER transcriptional activation underlies response to estrogen therapy, we tested the effects of epigenetic dysregulation via pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACi).

Conical coupling angular stable plate fixation: A retrospective study

open access: yes, 2020
Backgrounds. Conical coupling represents an alternative to screw coupling on angular stable plate fixation. Aims of the present study was to evaluate clinical effectiveness and ease of plate removal of conical coupling locking plates into different ...

Breaking the treatment dilemma of Schatzker IV fractures: finite element analysis validates hybrid single-plate with tension screw fixation for synergistic optimization of stability and minimally invasive outcomes

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
ObjectiveThe core challenge in treating Schatzker type IV tibial plateau fractures lies in balancing mechanical stability with minimally invasive techniques. Traditional double-plate fixation carries a high risk of soft tissue complications, while single-

Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

Functional outcome of conservative and surgical management in mid-third clavicle fractures

open access: yesJournal of Orthopedics, Traumatology and Rehabilitation, 2015
Purpose: Clavicle fracture traditionally treated conservatively. There is a growing trend to treat displaced mid-shaft clavicular fractures with primary open reduction and plate fixation; whether such treatment results in improved patient outcomes is ...

Bridging the gap: a genetically validated avian chorioallantoic membrane platform for investigation of spontaneous circulating tumor cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established the avian chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay as a scalable in vivo model for studying circulating tumor cells (CTCs). Human gastrointestinal tumors spontaneously released genetically validated CTCs that were detected across multiple platforms, demonstrating that the CAM model provides an accessible tool for investigating early cancer ...

Mechanical Comparison of Headless Screw Fixation and Locking Plate Fixation for Talar Neck Fractures

open access: yes, 2015
For talar neck fractures, open reduction and internal fixation have been thought to facilitate revascularization and prevent osteonecrosis. Newer screw systems allow for placement of cannulated headless screws, which provide compression by virtue of a ...

Fixation of distal fibular fractures: A biomechanical study of plate fixation techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Ankle fractures are complex injuries with variable prognoses that depend upon many factors. The aim of the treatment is to restore the ankle joint biomechanical stability with maximum range of motion.
