GRK6 regulates the hemostatic response to injury through its rate-limiting effects on GPCR signaling in platelets. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) mediate the majority of platelet activation in response to agonists. However, questions remain regarding the mechanisms that provide negative feedback toward activated GPCRs to limit platelet activation and thrombus ...

Inter‐Layer Diffusion of Excitations in 2D Perovskites Revealed by Photoluminescence Reabsorption

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inter‐layer diffusion of photoexcitations is monitored in thin films of the 2D perovskite (PEA)2PbI4 by tracking time‐dependent changes in photoluminescence spectra induced by photon reabsorption effects. A low out‐of‐plane excitation diffusion coefficient of 0.26 × 10−4 cm2 s−1 is determined through 1D diffusion modeling.

3D Nano‐architected Polymer Shell Enables Reconfigurable Stabilized Blue Phase Soft Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Spherical polymer shells featuring nanostructure of blue phase (BP) disclinations form via in situ photo‐polymerization within BP liquid crystals, providing controlled anchoring for BP nucleation and growth at room temperature and beyond. This architected confinement enhances BP thermal stability over a broad temperature range while enabling dynamic ...

Transport of platelets induced by red blood cells based on mixture theory [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Thrombosis is a common complication following the surgical implantation of blood contacting devices, and is strongly influenced by the phenomenon of near-wall enrichment of platelets. This paper describes a multi-constituent continuum approach to study this phenomenon.

Fluorescence resonance energy transfer between organic dyes adsorbed onto nano-clay and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films

open access: yes, 2010
In this communication we investigate two dyes N,N' -dioctadecyl thiacyanine perchlorate (NK) and octadecyl rhodamine B chloride (RhB) in Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films with or with out a synthetic clay laponite.

“Writing” Crystal Phases in Amorphous Calcium Carbonate via Laser‐Induced Patterned Transformations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced crystallization enabling the patterning of amorphous calcium carbonate into various distinct phases is introduced. This approach provides spatial control over polymorph selection, both crystalline and amorphous, inspired by biomineralization pathways.

On phase behavior and dynamical signatures of charged colloidal platelets

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate the competition between anisotropic excluded-volume and repulsive electrostatic interactions in suspensions of thin charged colloidal discs, by means of Monte-Carlo simulations and dynamical characterization of the structures found.

Microneedle Assisted Melittin‐Chondroitin Sulfate Administration for the Transdermal Therapy of Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Microneedle‐assisted RA therapy with MC complexes in CCMNP effectively treats cartilage degradation and synovitis without visceral damage. The dual capability in therapeutic intervention and in situ monitoring inflammation through local pH and ROS levels facilitates the dynamic adjustment of treatment protocols and represents a paradigm shift in the RA
