Compact polarization converter in InP-based material

open access: yesOptics Express, 2005
We present a polarization converter using one-dimensional grating principles. The device is based on slanted slots etched deeply into an InP/InGaAsP heterostructure. Almost complete polarization conversion, with a 14 dB extinction ratio, is observed for a device less than 2 microm long.

Stabilization of highly polar BiFeO$_3$-like structure: a new interface design route for enhanced ferroelectricity in artificial perovskite superlattices

open access: yes, 2016
In ABO3 perovskites, oxygen octahedron rotations are common structural distortions that can promote large ferroelectricity in BiFeO3 with an R3c structure [1], but suppress ferroelectricity in CaTiO3 with a Pbnm symmetry [2].

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Polarization holography materials and applications

open access: yesImaging and Applied Optics 2016, 2016
Modulating orientation of optical anisotropy axis can transform half-wave retardation films into lenses, prisms, axicons, spiral phase plates, and more. Polarization holography, particularly, digital, expands the variety and capabilities of the new generation optics. Article not available.

Generic theory of active polar gels: a paradigm for cytoskeletal dynamics

open access: yes, 2004
We develop a general theory for active viscoelastic materials made of polar filaments. This theory is motivated by the dynamics of the cytoskeleton. The continuous consumption of a fuel generates a non equilibrium state characterized by the generation of

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Microgravity-activated high-performance van der Waals InSe ferroelectric semiconductor

open access: yesNature Communications
The space microgravity environment, scarcely attainable on Earth, is considered to have a positive effect on crystal growth, especially the van der Waals layered materials with low interlayer sliding energy barriers.

Polarized representation for depolarization-dominant materials

open access: yesOptics Express
The light-matter interactions which occur in common indoor environments are strongly depolarizing, but the relatively small polarization attributes can be informative. This information is used in applications such as physics-based rendering and shape-from-polarization.

Identification and Comparison of Gray Literature in Two Polar Libraries: Australian Antarctic Division and Scott Polar Research Institute [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Gray literature collections were investigated and compared at the libraries of the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) and the Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI) in order to improve accessibility.
