Intestinal immunity induced by inactivated poliovirus vaccine
In order to detect any intestinal immunity against poliovirus infection induced by parenteral vaccination with inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV), experiments were conducted in monkeys (Macaca radiata). All animals were seronegative (antibody not detected at 1:2 dilution of serum) before investigation. Sixteen monkeys were vaccinated with three doses

Inactivated poliovirus vaccine: past and present experience
Vaccine, 1996Many countries have made use of inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) in their national poliovirus control programs since 1955. Until 1961 IPV was the only vaccine available for the control of poliovirus, but subsequently many countries opted to use the Sabin attenuated poliovirus vaccine (OPV), which was perceived as more effective in preventing ...

World wide experience with inactivated poliovirus vaccine
Vaccine, 2008As part of the global poliovirus eradication strategy, oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) has successfully contributed to reduce polio incidence rates globally. However, because of the OPV-related risks of vaccine associated paralytic poliomyelitis (VAPP) and vaccine-derived polioviruses (VDPVs) OPV cessation is required in order to achieve complete ...

A Randomized Phase 4 Study of Immunogenicity and Safety After Monovalent Oral Type 2 Sabin Poliovirus Vaccine Challenge in Children Vaccinated with Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine in Lithuania [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Understanding immunogenicity and safety of monovalent type 2 oral poliovirus vaccine (mOPV2) in inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV)-immunized children is of major importance in informing global policy to control circulating vaccine-derived ...

Impact of inactivated poliovirus vaccine on mucosal immunity: implications for the polio eradication endgame [PDF]
The polio eradication endgame aims to bring transmission of all polioviruses to a halt. To achieve this aim, it is essential to block viral replication in individuals via induction of a robust mucosal immune response. Although it has long been recognized
