l‐Leucine‐Based Layered Coordination Polymer Supports for Immobilizing Basic Salts to Yield Solid CO2 Adsorbents Resistant to Moisture and Oxidation

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
A layered amino acid–based coordination polymer, (Zn(Leu)2), acts as a support that immobilizes diverse basic salts. The resulting solid sorbents remain nondeliquescent under humid, DAC‐relevant feeds while enabling CO2 capture. The interlayer‐immobilized sorbents exhibit high oxidative stability after accelerated oxidative aging, unlike conventional ...

Microplastics and nanoplastics in water: Improving removal in wastewater treatment plants with alternative coagulants

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
The contaminant removal performance of a conventional coagulant, alum, and alternative coagulants, aluminium chlorohydrate (ACH) and ACH + pDADMC, are compared in challenging wastewater treatment conditions (pH >7.8). The interactions of each coagulant with a negatively charged surface are depicted based on quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation ...

In vitro and in vivo studies on exogenous polyamines and α-difluoromethylornithine to enhance bone formation and suppress osteoclast differentiation

open access: yesAmino Acids
Exogenous polyamines, including putrescine (PUT), spermidine (SPD), and spermine (SPM), and the irreversible inhibitor of the rate-limiting enzyme ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) of polyamine biosynthesis, α-difluoromethylornithine (DFMO), are implicated ...

Hyperbranched Molecular Brush Membrane for Efficient and Antifouling Oil‐Water Emulsion Separation

open access: yesCleanMat, EarlyView.
This work develops a carboxyl‐terminated hyperbranched molecular brush‐modified membrane that exhibits superhydrophilicity, underwater superoleophobicity, and a strong negative charge. The membrane achieves high efficiency, superior antifouling performance, and stable separation of oil‐in‐water emulsions across a wide pH range.

Metabolic abnormalities and reprogramming in cats with naturally occurring hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1256-1270, April 2025.
Abstract Background and aims The heart is a metabolic organ rich in mitochondria. The failing heart reprograms to utilize different energy substrates, which increase its oxygen consumption. These adaptive changes contribute to increased oxidative stress.

Design, Synthesis and biological evaluation of novel acridine-polyamine conjugates against prostate cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Prostate cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in men, aged 85 and over. Androgen receptor, a single polypeptide with three functional domains is very important during initiation and progression of the disease.

Protective Effects of Potential Probiotic Pediococcus acidilactici 100 Against Multi‐Drug‐Resistant Diarrheal Escherichia coli Strains Induced Changes in Caenorhabditis elegans Model System

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
This study shows the protective effects of potential probiotic strain of Pediococci strains against diarrheal Escherichia coli strains in Caenorhabditis elegans model system. The E. coli strains resulted in severe morphological and physiological damage to the worm whereas the probiotic interventions were able to reduce these damages.

DNA condensation and redissolution: Interaction between overcharged DNA molecules

open access: yes, 2004
The effective DNA-DNA interaction force is calculated by computer simulations with explicit tetravalent counterions and monovalent salt. For overcharged DNA molecules, the interaction force shows a double-minimum structure.

Interkingdom Interactions in the Gut: Ecological Mechanisms, Homeostasis, and Therapeutic Modulation

open access: yesGut Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The gut microbiota constitutes a highly complex and dynamic ecosystem that profoundly influences host physiology, metabolism, and immunity. This review provides an integrative overview of the mechanisms through which gut microorganisms—particularly bacteria and fungi—interact with host cells and with each other to maintain intestinal ...

Targeting Microbiome Metabolites: Reshaping Immunotherapy and Clinical Management Strategies for Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesiMetaMed, EarlyView.
The occurrence and progression of colorectal cancer are intricately linked to metabolites produced by the gut microbiota. Metabolites generated by pathogenic microbial communities can promote colorectal cancer development by reshaping the immune microenvironment.
