Studies on polygalacturonase of certain yeasts

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1951
Abstract 1. 1. Among a considerable number of yeast species, representing nearly all yeast genera, only six were found which were capable of causing certain changes in pectin, when grown in its presence. These six cultures could all be identified with Saccharomyces fragilis (and a variety of this species) and its imperfect form Candida ...

PectinaseAspergillus sp. polygalacturonase: Multiplicity, divergence, and structural patterns linking fungal, bacterial, and plant polygalacturonases

Journal of Protein Chemistry, 1993
Nine forms of Aspergillus sp. polygalacturonase were purified from a commercial preparation of pectinase Rohament P using chromatographies and chromatofocusing. Individual forms differ in isoelectric point, and at least five differ in structure; whereas molecular masses and enzymatic properties are largely identical.

Effect of osmotic potential on Geotrichum candidum: growth, polygalacturonase production, and polygalacturonase action

Physiological and Molecular Plant Pathology, 1986
The water relations of Geotrichum candidum were characterized in an attempt to explain a previously reported relation [ Baudoin & Eckert (1982) , Phytopathology 72 , 1592–1597] between the water potential of lemon fruits and their susceptibility to decay caused by this fungus. G. candidum was grown in liquid nutrient media amended with solutes (K.

Strain and process for production of polygalacturonase

Enzyme and Microbial Technology, 1990
A process was developed for the production of polygalacturonase (poly-1,4-α-d-galacturonide glycanohydrolase, EC 3.2.1.15) by Aspergillus niger VTT-D-77050 and its mutant VTT-D-86267. High levels of production were obtained in laboratory fermentations on a beet extraction waste medium.

Polygalacturonase from Corticium rolfsii

1988
Publisher Summary Two assay methods have generally been employed for the estimation of polygalacturonase activity: release of reducing groups from pectic acid and viscosity reduction of pectic acid. The viscometric assay is more sensitive than the reducing group assay, so it is convenient for estimation of the minor activity.

Exo-polygalacturonase of apple

Phytochemistry, 1978
Exo-polygalacturonase was extracted from apple cortical tissue. The enzyme hydrolyses polygalacturonic acid and has a pH optimum of 4.5–5 with this substrate. It is inhibited by EDTA and citrate and is activated by Ca2+ and to a lesser extent by Sr2+.

Polygalacturonase and ethanol production in Kluyveromyces marxianus: potential use of polygalacturonase in foodstuffs.

Applied biochemistry and biotechnology, 2004
The coproduction of ethanol and polygalacturonase (PG) in a pilot-scale batch fermentor using yeast extract--glucose (YD)--and sugar beet molasses (SBM)-based media was implemented utilizing a new high-PG-producing strain of Kluyveromyces marxianus. A certain growth inhibition was observed in SBM medium, causing ethanol and PG production to be lower ...
