Isokibdelones: Novel heterocyclic polyketides from a Kibdelosporangium sp.

open access: yes, 2006
The isokibdelones are an unprecedented family of polyketides produced by an Australian isolate of a rare actinomycete, Kibdelosporangium sp. The structures of the isokibdelones were assigned by spectroscopic analysis and chemical interconversion.

Response of Fecal Bacteria and Fungi to Tannin‐Rich Diets in Sika Deer (Cervus nippon): Evidence from Both Feeding Experiments and Field Investigations

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Feeding with tannin‐rich diets altered the fecal microbial composition and increased the relative abundance of tannin‐degrading microbes. We hypothesize that fecal bacteria and fungi may play important roles in helping herbivores adapt to tannin‐rich diets but respond to different tannin concentrations varies.

Comparison of Three Sympatric Desert Lizards: Digestive Tract Structure, Digestive Enzyme Activities, Gut Microbiota, and Metabolites

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
We performed 16S rDNA sequencing and metabolite profiling for three sympatric lizard species—Teratoscincus roborowskii, Phrynocephalus axillaris, and Eremias roborowskii—and compared their goblet cell and enzyme activities in the digestive tract. Our study suggests that the dietary niche may promote divergence or convergence of microbiota across host ...

New Polyketides from a Marine Sponge-Derived Fungus, Neopestalotiopsis sp., with Anti-Renal Fibrosis Activity

open access: yesMarine Drugs
Sixteen polyketides, including six new compounds (1–2, and 5–8), were isolated from the culture of the marine sponge-associated fungus Neopestalotiopsis sp. SCSIO 41422.

Caffeylpyruvate hydrolase from the bioluminescent fungus Neonothopanus gardneri is the key recycling enzyme in the fungal bioluminescence pathway

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Caffeic acid is a central metabolite in the fungal bioluminescence pathway. We identified and characterized caffeylpyruvate hydrolase from Neonothopanus gardneri (ngarCPH) and demonstrate its ability to hydrolyze fungal oxyluciferin into caffeic and pyruvic acids, confirming a complete and self‐sustained fungal bioluminescence cycle.

New Monoterpenoids and Polyketides from the Deep-Sea Sediment-Derived Fungus Aspergillus sydowii MCCC 3A00324

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2020
Chemical study of the secondary metabolites of a deep-sea-derived fungus Aspergillus sydowii MCCC 3A00324 led to the isolation of eleven compounds (1–11), including one novel (1) and one new (2) osmane-related monoterpenoids and two undescribed ...

Pangenome analysis reveals the genetic mechanism underlying high‐altitude adaptation in Qinghai–Xizang (Tibet) Plateau Rhododendron

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Pan‐genome analysis reveals that high‐altitude Rhododendron species resist alpine cold stress by rapidly sensing and engaging the chilling response pathway and genes that directly and indirectly protect the plant from UV radiation. Heritable genomic features such as long terminal repeats contribute to the adaptive diversification of Rhododendron ...

Novel polyketides isolated from Streptomyces sp.

open access: yes, 2008
From the endophytic strain Streptomyces sp. CS of Maytenus hookeri, five novel type III polyketides, compounds 1-5, were isolated. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analyses including 1D- and 2D-NMR experiments, and by HR-ESI ...
