Polymerase Chain Reaction on a Viral Nanoparticle [PDF]

open access: yesACS Synthetic Biology, 2015
The field of synthetic biology includes studies that aim to develop new materials and devices from biomolecules. In recent years, much work has been carried out using a range of biomolecular chassis including α-helical coiled coils, β-sheet amyloids and even viral particles. In this work, we show how hybrid bionanoparticles can be produced from a viral

Detection of airborne inoculum of Leptosphaeria maculans and Pyrenopeziza brassicae in oilseed rape crops by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The potential use of DNA-based methods for detecting airborne inoculum of Leptosphaeria maculans and Pyrenopeziza brassicae, both damaging pathogens of oilseed rape, was investigated.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Aetiological role of viral and bacterial infections in acute adult lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) in primary care

open access: yes, 2005
Background: Lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI) are a common reason for consulting general practitioners (GPs). In most cases the aetiology is unknown, yet most result in an antibiotic prescription.

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

Relevance of micrometastases detected by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction for melanoma recurrence: systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesSão Paulo Medical Journal
CONTEXT: Cutaneous melanoma presents significant morbidity and mortality. Nowadays, about 90% of them are diagnosed by clinical examination and most are localized melanomas.

Adaptor protein CIN85 potentiates the motility of osteosarcoma cells via the Akt/mTOR and MMP2‐COL3A1 axis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CIN85 is highly expressed in osteosarcoma, particularly in metastatic lesions. Its overexpression increases cell migration and Matrigel invasion, while silencing CIN85 suppresses these behaviors. Transcriptome analysis shows that CIN85 regulates MMP2, COL3A1, and Akt/mTOR signaling. Targeting these pathways reverses CIN85‐induced motility, highlighting
