Self-assembling linear and star shaped poly (ε-caprolactone)/poly[(meth)acrylic acid] block copolymers as carriers of indomethacin and quercetin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A amphiphilic linear AB, BAB, and star shaped (AB)(3) block copolymers of poly(E-caprolactone) (PCL)/poly(meth)acrylic acid (P(M)AA) are used for the preparation of nanoparticles and drug entrapment, where indomethacin and quercetin are employed as model

Photo‐Controlled Antibacterial Drug Release From DASA‐Coated Silica Particles for Improved Treatment of Wound Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Synthesis and characterization of light‐responsive donor–acceptor Stenhouse adducts (DASA)‐coated chlorhexidine‐loaded silica nanoparticles. Such a controllable drug‐delivery system enables the release of the antimicrobial drug on demand and in consecutive cycles, thereby maintaining the concentration within the therapeutic window.

Toy amphiphiles on the computer: What can we learn from generic models?

open access: yes, 2009
Generic coarse-grained models are designed such that they are (i) simple and (ii) computationally efficient. They do not aim at representing particular materials, but classes of materials, hence they can offer insight into universal properties of these ...

LL‐37 Driven Phase Transition and Stacking in Oligolamellar Gram‐Negative Bacterial Membrane Models

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work establishes oligolamellar bacterial membrane models to investigate how LL‐37 disrupts the complex dual‐bilayer architecture of Gram‐negative bacteria. Combining SAXS, cryo‐TEM, electrophoretic mobility measurements, and coarse‐grained simulations, it reveals cardiolipin‐driven phase transitions leading to bicelle‐like structures and membrane ...

A novel diblock copolymer of (monomethoxy poly [ethylene glycol]-oleate) with a small hydrophobic fraction to make stable micelles/polymersomes for curcumin delivery to cancer cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Curcumin is a potent natural anticancer agent, but its effectiveness is limited by properties such as very low solubility, high rate of degradation, and low rate of absorption of its hydrophobic molecules in vivo.

Thermosensitive Polymeric Micelles for Targeted Drug Delivery [PDF]

open access: yesNanomedicine, 2011
Thermosensitive polymers are characterized by temperature-dependent aqueous solution properties. Below their lower critical solution temperature they are in an expanded state and fully dissolved, while above it they are dehydrated and insoluble. This has been exploited for the development of polymeric micelles that can be formed or destabilized ...

Interfacial Modulation for High‐Efficiency Large‐Area Organic Photovoltaics and Perovskite‐Organic Tandem Solar Modules

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) are promising hole‐transporting materials for organic photovoltaics (OPVs), but suffer from self‐aggregation and poor large‐area uniformity. We find that interfacial modification using nicotinic hydrazide can eliminate the residual SAM aggregates by forming energetically favorable complexes, yielding uniform SAM.

New micelle myricetin formulation for ocular delivery: improved stability, solubility, and ocular anti-inflammatory treatment

open access: yesDrug Delivery, 2019
Myricetin (Myr) is a naturally occurring flavonoid exhibiting diverse biological and pharmacological properties, but its characteristics such as water insolubility, poor aqueous stability, and poor bioavailability limit its clinical application ...

Thermodynamics of micellization of oppositely charged polymers

open access: yes, 2003
The complexation of oppositely charged colloidal objects is considered in this paper as a thermodynamic micellization process where each kind of object needs the others to micellize.

Synthesis of Fluorine-18 Functionalized Nanoparticles for use as in vivo Molecular Imaging Agents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Nanoparticles containing fluorine-18 were prepared from block copolymers made by ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP). Using the fast initiating ruthenium metathesis catalyst (H_2IMes)(pyr)_2(Cl)_2Ru=CHPh, low polydispersity amphiphilic block ...
