Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

Formulation design and properties of high modulus natural rubber/cis-1,4-polybutadiene rubber/trans-1,4-poly(butadiene-co-isoprene) rubber blends

open access: yesHecheng xiangjiao gongye, 2023
The structure and properties of high modulus natural rubber (NR) / cis-1,4-polybutadiene rubber (BR) blends reinforced with carbon black and modified with trans-1,4-poly(butadiene-co-isoprene) rubber (TBIR) and low Mooney viscosity trans-1,4-poly ...

UHMWPE/SBA-15 nanocomposites synthesized by in situ polymerization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Different nanocomposites have been attained by in situ polymerization based on ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and mesoporous SBA-15, this silica being used for immobilization of the FI catalyst bis [N-(3-tert-butylsalicylidene)-2,3,4,

The solution supramolecular structure of α2 → 8 polysialic acid suggests a structural cause for its low immunogenicity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
α2 → 8 polysialic acid elicits poor immunogenicity. Small‐angle scattering shows a supramolecular structure with parallel‐chain binding, although in different forms at μm and mm calcium. The major histocompatibility complex requires molecular weights around 2000 Da to produce antibodies, and 2000 Da polysialic oligomers will bind in these structures ...

Adsorption behaviour of molecularly imprinted-beta-cyclodextrin polymers prepared by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization for selective recognition of benzylparaben [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are kinds of powerful materials with promising selective molecule recognition abilities. However, the conventional MIPs have relatively low binding capacity.

Soft Listeria: actin-based propulsion of liquid drops

open access: yes, 2003
We study the motion of oil drops propelled by actin polymerization in cell extracts. Drops deform and acquire a pear-like shape under the action of the elastic stresses exerted by the actin comet.

Kinetics of the Free-Radical Polymerization of Isobornyl Methacrylate in the Presence of Polyisobutylenes of Different Molar Masses [PDF]

open access: yesMacromolecules 2005, 38, 5987-5994, 2013
The effect of a linear polymer dissolved in a reactive monomer on the kinetics of free-radical polymerization is studied. The selected system was a solution of polyisobutylene (PIB) in isobornyl methacrylate (IBoMA). Ternary phase diagrams of PIB, IBoMA and poly(isobornyl methacrylate) (PIBoMA) were built at 80C.

On‐treatment dynamics of circulating extracellular vesicles in the first‐line setting of patients with advanced non‐small cell lung cancer: the LEXOVE prospective study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LEXOVE prospective study evaluated plasma cell‐free extracellular vesicle (cfEV) dynamics using Bradford assay and dynamic light scattering in metastatic non‐small cell lung cancer patients undergoing first‐line treatments, correlating a ∆cfEV < 20% with improved median progression‐free survival in responders versus non‐responders.

Study of Ziegler-Natta/(2-PhInd)2ZrCl2 hybrid catalysts performance in slurry propylene polymerization [PDF]

open access: yesPolyolefins Journal, 2015
Several types of hybrid catalysts are made through mixing of 4th generation Ziegler-Natta (ZN) and (2-PhInd)2ZrCl2  metallocene catalysts using triethylaluminum (TEA) as coupling agent.
