Antifungal Properties of the Polymyxins

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1952
Summary(1) Polymyxins A, B, D and E were tested for antifungal activity against 5 species of dermatophytes and 1 systemic fungus. Varieties B and E were the most active and of equal effectiveness. (2) Activity of the polymyxins was not significantly inhibited by serum.

Evaluation of the Rapid Polymyxin NP Test for Polymyxin B Resistance Detection Using Enterobacter cloacae and Enterobacter aerogenes Isolates

open access: yes, 2017
Polymyxin resistance is an increasing problem worldwide. Currently, determining susceptibility to polymyxins is problematic and lengthy. Polymyxins diffuse poorly into agar, potentially giving inaccurate disk diffusion and Etest results.

Clinical Management of Helicobacter Infection in Captive Baboons (Papio anubis and Papio hamadryas), and Isolation and Molecular Characterization of Three Novel Helicobacter Species

open access: yesJournal of Medical Primatology, Volume 55, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Helicobacter spp. are gastric or enterohepatic bacteria that can be commensal, opportunistic, or pathogenic. Few studies have evaluated Helicobacter spp. in baboons. Methods Twenty‐seven captive baboons were surveyed for Helicobacter spp. by fecal PCR, and a subset evaluated by culture.

Real-world data on the effects of colistin sulfate and polymyxin B sulfate in the treatment of pneumonia induced by CR-GNB

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries
Introduction: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of colistin sulfate (CS) with polymyxin B sulfate (PMB) in the treatment of pneumonia induced by carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (CR-GNB).

Rapid Polymyxin/Pseudomonas NP test for rapid detection of polymyxin susceptibility/resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

open access: yes, 2020
Polymyxins are becoming an added value for treating infections due to multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Therefore, the Rapid Polymyxin/Pseudomonas NP test was developed for the identification of polymyxin resistance in P.

Two Cases of Fibrin Membrane‐Induced Pupillary Block Treated With Neodymium‐Doped Yttrium Aluminium Garnet (Nd:YAG) Laser After Cataract Surgery in Dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 4, July 2026.
This study evaluates the clinical efficacy of Nd:YAG laser membranotomy in dogs with fibrin membrane‐induced pupillary block (FMPB). Targeted application of the Nd:YAG laser safely disrupts the obstructive pupillary membrane, thereby restoring normal aqueous humour outflow and effectively resolving secondary intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation without

Molecular modeling study of the contributions of side amino acid residues of polymyxin B3 to its binding with E.coli outer membrane lipopolysaccharide

open access: yesAnnals of Mechnikov's Institute, 2020
Last decades, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are the subject of intense investigations aimed to develop effective drugs against extremely resistant nosocomial bacterial pathogens (especially Gram-negative bacteria).
