Degradation Kinetics of Ascorbic Acid in Xanthan Gum Solution

open access: yesShipin gongye ke-ji
Ascorbic acid (AA) reacts with polysaccharides, resulting in changes in the rheological and structural properties of the polysaccharides. However, the degradation characteristics of AA and its degradation kinetics during this reaction require further ...

An Ionic Gelation Powder for Ultrafast Hemostasis and Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafast ionic gelation‐activated hemostatic powder (AGCL) forms a hydrogel within ≈1 s upon contact with blood‐derived calcium ions. The AGCL powder enables rapid hemorrhage control, strong tissue adhesion, and enhanced healing. The powder's pre‐crosslinked polymer network ensures high blood uptake and stability, offering effective treatment for ...

Gut Microbiota‐Bile Acid Metabolism Axis Drive Anti‐Diabetic Effects of Polygonatum cyrtonema Polysaccharide on Glycolipid Metabolism and Intestinal Inflammation

open access: yesFood Frontiers
Polygonatum cyrtonema polysaccharide (PCP‐80%) is one of the major active ingredients in Polygonatum cyrtonema. By establishing the type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rat model and applying multi‐omics analysis, the present study aimed to explore the ...

Controlling 3D Contractility via Engineered Fibrous Hydrogel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A tunable composite contractile assembly (CCA) is developed that can permit or resist contraction without changing cell‐adhesion and density, unlike collagen whose inherent coupling of these ECM cues limits its use as a platform in contractility studies.

Dietary Jerusalem artichoke polysaccharide supplementation alters the growth performance, ruminal microbes and metabolites, muscle fatty acid and amino acid profiles in fattening lambs

open access: yesAnimal Nutrition
The Jerusalem artichoke polysaccharide (JAP) acts as a prebiotic in ruminants. This study investigated the effects of dietary JAP supplementation on growth performance, meat traits, rumen microbes, and metabolome of fattening lambs. A total of 72 healthy

All‐Aqueous Pullulan Fibers Enabling Visible‐to‐Near‐Infrared Waveguiding with Mechanical and Thermal Resilience

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Pullulan, a biomass‐derived polysaccharide, is transformed into transparent optical fibers using a solvent‐free borax hydrogel‐spinning method. The fibers outperform PMMA with ≈200 MPa tensile strength and 200 °C stability, while uniquely guiding visible‐to‐NIR light and enabling additive‐free humidity sensing.

An Ultrafast Self‐Gelling Versatile Hydrogel for Rapid Infected Burn Wound Repair in Military Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐gelling PG@PAC (POD/Gel‐CDH@PA/CHX) powder is developed for infected burn care in austere settings. Upon contact with wound exudate, it instantly forms an adhesive hydrogel, providing simultaneous hemostasis, broad‐spectrum antibacterial activity, reactive oxygen species scavenging, and immunomodulation. In a murine model of S.

Injectable Dual‐Network Hydrogel System for Osteochondral Repair Combining Immunomodulation, Mechanical Adaptability, and Enhanced Tissue Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A UV‐triggered injectable dual‐network hydrogel is reported as the first application of bletilla striata polysaccharide (BSP) in osteochondral repair. By integrating methacrylamide‐modified BSP and nitrobenzaldehyde‐functionalized hyaluronic acid, the system achieves immunomodulation, mechanical reinforcement, and dynamic tissue adhesion, thereby ...

Optimization and identification of bound polyphenols from rice bean (Vigna umbellata) skin dietary fiber, antioxidant activities and α-glucosidase inhibition mechanism

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X
Vigna umbellata is an important homologous medicinal and food legume, and its fruit is rich in polyphenols. Acidic, alkaline (highest yield) and enzymatic methods were used to release bound polyphenols from rice bean skin dietary fiber. 44 compounds were

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...
