Abstract Previous in vitro studies have indicated that oxidized phytosterol (OPS) exhibits some toxicity; however, the harmful effects of OPS on fatty acid metabolism are not completely understood yet. Therefore, this study examined the effects of exogenous phytosterol (PS) and OPS on growth parameters and lipid metabolism in rats.

Algal food identity affects morphological anti‐predatory defense in Daphnia pulex
Abstract Microcrustaceans of the genus Daphnia have evolved various inducible anti‐predator defenses; however, it is largely underexplored how the bottom‐up factor food quality may affect the extent of these defenses. A well‐studied example of an inducible defense is the deployment of neckteeth in Daphnia pulex in response to infochemicals from ...

Abstract Heterotrophic feeding on plankton and particulate organic matter (POM) by tropical Scleractinian corals is known to aid in the resistance and recovery from thermally induced bleaching. However, the relative importance of heterotrophy in promoting bleaching resistance and recovery is likely to vary based on ecological context and the severity ...

The Gut‐Brain Axis in Parkinson disease: Emerging Concepts and Therapeutic Implications
Abstract Background The gut‐brain axis, i.e. the bidirectional communication system between the gut and the brain, has become of central importance in Parkinson disease (PD) research over the past 20 years. Aims We aimed to describe the milestones of the gut‐brain axis research in PD and the development of theories proposing the involvement of the ...
