Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) frequently causes diarrhea outbreaks. However, whether newly discovered enteric viruses such as porcine kobuvirus (PKV) and porcine astroviruses (PAstVs) are also correlated with diarrhea is still unclear. Diarrhea outbreaks were reported in a PEDV-vaccinated pig farm in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China ...

Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus Infects and Replicates in Porcine Alveolar Macrophages
Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is a causative agent of porcine epidemic diarrhea; consequently, the small intestine was believed to be its only target organ. In this study, we found that PEDV infected not only the small intestines, but also the respiratory tract.

Development of a Model of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea in Microminipigs
Veterinary Pathology, 2019Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) induces an often fatal gastrointestinal disease in piglets. In this study, we performed a PEDV infection experiment with the Microminipig, the smallest of experimental minipigs, as a novel small animal model. We orally inoculated a neonatal Microminipig with an intestinal homogenate of a PEDV-infected pig and ...

Economic impact of porcine epidemic diarrhea in Mexico
Agro Productividad, 2022Objective: The number of pre- and post- outbreak weaned piglets was evaluated, as well as return to productive normality, cost of weaned piglets, and economic impact (implications) of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED). Design/Methodology/Approximation: The data were obtained from 24,597 farrows of weaned piglets from Mexican pork farms under conditions ...

Porcine epidemic diarrhea: the return of an old disease.

Overview of the recent advances in porcine epidemic diarrhea vaccines
The Veterinary JournalVaccination is the most effective means of preventing and controlling porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED). Conventional vaccines developed from porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) GI-a subtypes (CV777 and SM98) have played a vital role in preventing classical PED.

Porcine Postweaning Diarrhea Isolates of Escherichia Coli with Uropathogenic Characters
2005Our studies confirm earlier findings of Dozois et al. 19978,and de Brito et al. 19999 about the occurence of necrotoxic and P or S fimbriated E. coli among enteric and extraintestinal isolates from suckling pigs, and provide additional evidence for similar properties of E. coli in diarrheal weaned pigs.
