Milk lactose protects against porcine group A rotavirus infection

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Rotavirus A (RVA) is an important pathogen causing acute gastroenteritis in animals and humans. Attachment to the host receptor is a crucial step for virus replication. The VP8* domain is the distal terminal region of the RVA spike protein VP4 (expressed

VP4 serotype of the Gottfried strain of porcine rotavirus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1993
The antigenic relationships of the VP4 serotype of porcine rotavirus Gottfried strain with other rotaviruses were determined by using antiserum to Gottfried VP4-baculovirus recombinant. This antiserum failed to react significantly with virus of serotypes P1A, P1B, P3, and OSU; however, it reacted with P2 strains.

Development of a Quadruplex RT-qPCR for the Detection of Porcine Astrovirus, Porcine Sapovirus, Porcine Norovirus, and Porcine Rotavirus A. [PDF]

open access: yesPathogens
Porcine astrovirus (PoAstV), porcine sapovirus (PoSaV), porcine norovirus (PoNoV), and porcine rotavirus A (PoRVA) are newly discovered important porcine diarrhea viruses with a wide range of hosts and zoonotic potential, and their co-infections are often found in pig herds.

Porcine rotavirus mainly infects primary porcine enterocytes at the basolateral surface [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary Research, 2019
AbstractIntestinal epithelium functions as a barrier to protect multicellular organisms from the outside world. It consists of epithelial cells closely connected by intercellular junctions, selective gates which control paracellular diffusion of solutes, ions and macromolecules across the epithelium and keep out pathogens. Rotavirus is one of the major

Rotavirus genetic diversity, disease association, and temporal change in hospitalized rural Kenyan children [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background. The effectiveness of rotavirus vaccines will be dependent on the immunity conferred against prevalent and emergent variants causing severe diarrheal disease.

Surface Display of Antigen Protein VP8* of Porcine Rotavirus on Bacillus Subtilis Spores Using CotB as a Fusion Partner

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Porcine rotavirus is a major cause of acute viral gastroenteritis in suckling piglets, and vaccination is considered to be an effective measure to control these infections.

Molecular epidemiological investigation of group A porcine rotavirus in East China. [PDF]

open access: yesFront Vet Sci, 2023
Group A porcine rotavirus (RVA) is a serious threat to the breeding industry worldwide, which was associated with severe diarrhea in piglets. However, the prevalence and molecular characterizations of RVA circulating in farms of East China remains largely unknown.

Early transcriptional response in the jejunum of germ-free piglets after oral infection with virulent rotavirus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Germ-free piglets were orally infected with virulent rotavirus to collect jejunal mucosal scrapings at 12 and 18 hours post infection (two piglets per time point).

Assessing the Epidemiology of Rotavirus A, B, C and H in Diarrheic Pigs of Different Ages in Northern Italy

open access: yesPathogens, 2022
Rotaviruses are classified in 10 groups (A to J), where rotavirus A (RVA) is the major cause of diarrhea in humans and animals. With some exceptions, there is scarce information on the epidemiology of non-A rotaviruses in human and animal hosts ...

Detection of a Porcine-Like Rotavirus in a Child with Enteritis in Italy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 2008
ABSTRACT During a 1-year rotavirus surveillance of children hospitalized with acute gastroenteritis in Brescia Hospital, Italy, a chimerical rotavirus strain, G3P[6], was detected, displaying the VP7 and VP4 genes of porcine origin and the NSP4 and VP6 genes of human origin.
