Establishment of porcine enterocyte/myofibroblast co-cultures for the growth of porcine rota- and coronaviruses

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
A stable culture of primary porcine enterocytes is necessary to study porcine enteric virus replication characteristics. Because the direct cultivation of primary porcine enterocytes is difficult, alternatives have to be considered.

2′‐FL's Depiction of the Human Physiological Function Landscape

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
The figure summarizes the multifaceted physiological effects of 2′‐fucosyllactose (2′‐FL), a major human milk oligosaccharide. The schematic illustrates the central role of the gut‐centered regulatory axis, where 2′‐FL modulates gut microbiota composition, promotes the production of short‐chain fatty acids and microbial metabolites, enhances mucus ...

HSV-replication defective based vector as vaccines against Rotavirus infections [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: Rotaviruses (RVs) are the most important cause of acute gastroenteritis in humans and animals. These viruses cause diarrheal disease primarily in the young, but infection and disease in older children and adults can occur, resulting in more ...

Isolation of an Avianlike Group A Rotavirus from a Calf with Diarrhea [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
An atypical group A rotavirus (993/83) was isolated from a 3-day-old German calf with diarrhea. It differed from 35 conventional German bovine rotavirus isolates analyzed previously with respect to subgroup (strain 993/83 was non-subgroup I and non ...

Evolutionary characterization and pathogenicity of a porcine G9P[23] rotavirus with gene segments linked to canine and giant panda strains

open access: yesVirus Research
Porcine rotavirus A (RVA) has emerged as an increasingly consequential zoonotic pathogen, causing severe intestinal disorders across diverse mammalian species, including humans.

Advancing Antiviral Design: Integrating Natural Products, Computation and Targeted Delivery

open access: yesChemical Biology &Drug Design, Volume 108, Issue 1, July 2026.
A stepwise translational framework linking natural‐product discovery, computational prioritisation, experimental validation, lead optimisation and targeted delivery is proposed to advance antiviral design. ABSTRACT The COVID‐19 pandemic highlighted the role of rapid viral mutation and global connectivity in accelerating viral emergence and spread ...

Detection of porcine rotavirus in stools by a latex agglutination test

open access: yesVeterinary Microbiology, 1991
We developed a simple agglutination test for the detection of porcine rotavirus in stools from pigs with diarrhea. The virus was detected with high sensitivity and specificity by a slide agglutination test using latex particles coated with antibody against the porcine rotavirus strain OSU (LA-antiOSU).

Porcine rotavirus-like virus (group B rotavirus): characterization and pathogenicity for gnotobiotic pigs [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1985
A rotavirus-like virus (RVLV) was isolated from a diarrheic pig from an Ohio swine herd. This virus infected villous enterocytes throughout the small intestine of gnotobiotic pigs and induced an acute, transitory diarrhea. Complete virions were rarely observed in the intestinal contents of infected animals; the predominant particle detected by immune ...

Foodborne Risk to Human Health of Hepatitis E Virus in Pigs and Pigmeat in Ireland

open access: yesFood Risk Assess Europe, Volume 4, Issue 3, July 2026.
Abstract Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a major cause of acute viral hepatitis in people worldwide. In Ireland, evidence of past HEV exposure has been identified in approximately 5% of blood donors, while a small proportion have detectable viral RNA. HEV is also present in pigs and has been detected in pigmeat products, raising concerns about foodborne ...

In vitro detection of porcine rotavirus-like virus (group B rotavirus) and its antibody [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1985
Four isolates of porcine rotavirus-like virus (PRVLV) infected MA104 cells and induced syncytium formation after low-speed centrifugation of the inoculum onto the monolayer. Ten of 44 (23%) Ohio swine sera had PRVLV antibodies when tested by indirect immunofluorescence, using PRVLV-infected MA104 cell monolayers as antigen.
