The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Changes in cortical activation during proprioceptive stimulation and galvanic vestibular stimulation in healthy individuals and individuals with post-stroke balance disorders: A functional near-infrared spectroscopy study

open access: yesNeuroImage: Clinical
Introduction: Although previous studies have shown that galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS) and proprioceptive stimulation (PS) can improve balance function in patients with post-stroke balance disorders, the exact central mechanisms remain unclear ...

Emotional modulation of visual cortex activity: A functional nearinfrared spectroscopy study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Functional neuroimaging and electroencephalography reveal emotional effects in early visual cortex. Here, we used fNIRS to examine haemodynamic responses evoked by neutral, positive and negative emotional pictures, matched for brightness, contrast, hue,

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Intracellular mechanisms underlying the nicotinic enhancement of LTP in the rat dentate gyrus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We have previously shown that activation of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) enhanced long-term potentiation (LTP) in the rat dentate gyrus in vitro via activation of α7 nAChR. In the present studies, mechanisms underlying the acute and chronic

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Ventral tegmental area activation promotes firing precision and strength through circuit inhibition in the primary auditory cortex

open access: yesFrontiers in Neural Circuits, 2014
The activation of the ventral tegmental area (VTA) can rebuild the tonotopic representation in the primary auditory cortex (A1), but the cellular mechanisms remain largely unknown. Here, we investigated the firing patterns and membrane potential dynamics

Modulation of voltage-dependent sodium and potassium currents by charged amphiphiles in cardiac ventricular myocytes. Effects via modification of surface potential. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Modulation of voltage-dependent sodium and potassium currents by charged amphiphiles was investigated in cardiac ventricular myocytes using the patch-clamp technique.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Effects of Al-Ti migration-driven interfacial reactions on low-activation Al2O3/Ti brazed joints

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology
Al2O3/Ti serves as a critical brazed structure in accelerator tubes. In this study, the post-irradiation activation behavior of Ag–Cu and AlMgCr filler metals was comparatively evaluated.
