Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

The relation between modeled and perceived accessibility [PDF]

open access: yes
This thesis investigates the relationship between modeled and perceived accessibility across different activities and transport modes. Accessibility is important for people’s daily lives as it enables them to reach and carry out various activities.

Romania’s Accession to Second Modernity. Potential of Convergence

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Economics, 2006
This paper analyses Romanian economy facing with European integration process at 2007. The Romanian economy advanced the development prudent macroeconomics policies and implement structural reforms in the market for goods, labor and financial products. We identify in this study the principal conditionalities for the admittance in European Union.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Place Rank: Valuing Spatial Interactions [PDF]

open access: yes
Accessibility measures the potential of opportunities for interaction. This paper proposes and explores a new flow-based measure, 'place rank' using origin-destination information.

Geosites in Orava, Liptov and Spiš (N Slovakia) – Evaluation, Accessibility and Geotouristic Potential

open access: yesQuaestiones Geographicae
The Sub-Tatra region, which includes Orava, Liptov, and Spiš regions, is an area with high geodiversity and biodiversity. This diversity is manifested, among others, by the occurrence of geosites of special cognitive, educational, and tourist value. This

An International Comparison of Equity in Accessibility to Jobs: London, São Paulo and the Randstad

open access: yesFindings, 2019
We analyze the impact of different accessibility measures on the interpretation of associated equity analysis using the Gini Coefficient and the (pseudo) Palma Ratio, and the impact of the method of assigning zonal accessibility on Gini estimation ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
