Neural mapping of prepulse-induced startle reflex modulation as indices of sensory information processing in healthy and clinical populations: A systematic review. [PDF]

open access: yesHum Brain Mapp, 2021
Abstract Startle reflex is modulated when a weaker sensory stimulus (“prepulse”) precedes a startling stimulus (“pulse”). Prepulse Inhibition (PPI) is the attenuation of the startle reflex (prepulse precedes pulse by 30–500 ms), whereas Prepulse Facilitation (PPF) is the enhancement of the startle reflex (prepulse precedes pulse by 500–6000 ms).

Impaired glucose tolerance is associated with enhanced postprandial pancreatic polypeptide secretion. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Diabetes, 2022
Highlights Compared with normal glucose tolerance subjects, impaired glucose regulation and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients have an enhanced postprandial pancreatic polypeptide (PP) secretion. In patients with T2DM, the secretion of PP is mainly affected by body mass index and blood glucose.

Pro-Tumorigenic Phosphorylation of p120 Catenin in Renal and Breast Cancer. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Altered protein expression and phosphorylation are common events during malignant transformation. These perturbations have been widely explored in the context of E-cadherin cell-cell adhesion complexes, which are central in the maintenance of the normal ...

Current perspective on biological properties of plasmacytoid dendritic cells and dysfunction in gut. [PDF]

open access: yesImmun Inflamm Dis, 2023
pDCs are a subset of dendritic cells, and transcription factors play a crucial role in the process. pDCs contribute to intestinal immune responses by generating interferon (IFN) and presenting antigens. pDCs guard the intestinal mucosa and protect against the invasion of microbiota and pathogens in the gut, playing a pivotal role in gut infection and ...

Mechanism and function of CEACAM1 splice isoforms. [PDF]

open access: yesEur J Clin Invest
Abstract Background Alternative splicing is a fundamental mechanism in the post‐transcriptional regulation of genes. The multifunctional transmembrane glycoprotein receptor carcinoembryonic antigen‐related cell adhesion molecule 1 (CEACAM1) undergoes extensive alternative splicing to allow for tunable functions in cell signalling, adhesion and ...

Phenotypic drift in metastatic progression of breast cancer: A case report with histologically heterogeneous lesions that are clonally related. [PDF]

open access: yesClin Case Rep, 2020
Breast cancer metastasis to the stomach is rare; invasive lobular carcinoma has a predilection to spread to the gastrointestinal system and is morphologically similar to primary diffuse gastric carcinoma. This case highlights heterogeneous metastatic progression and that documentation of heterogeneity is important for informing future treatment ...

Afadin loss induces breast cancer metastasis through destabilisation of E-cadherin to F-actin linkage. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Pathol
Abstract Afadin is a multimodal scaffolding protein with essential functions in cell–cell adhesion. Although its loss of expression has been linked to breast cancer invasion and metastasis, the underlying mechanisms driving tumour progression upon mutational Afadin (AFDN) loss in breast cancers remains unclear.

The Role of Insulin Receptor Isoforms in Diabetes and Its Metabolic and Vascular Complications. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Diabetes Res, 2017
The insulin receptor (IR) presents by alternative splicing two isoforms: IRA and IRB. The differential physiological and pathological role of both isoforms is not completely known, and it is determinant the different binding affinity for insulin‐like growth factor.

Microarray and morphological analysis of early postnatal CRB2 mutant retinas on a pure C57BL/6J genetic background [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS One, 2013
In humans, the Crumbs homologue-1 (CRB1) gene is mutated in progressive types of autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa and Leber congenital amaurosis ...

Angular Leaf Spot: A Bacterial Disease in Strawberries in Florida

open access: yesEDIS, 2005
Angular Leaf Spot (ALS) is a bacterial disease caused by Xanthomonas fragariae Kennedy & King, a pathogen highly specific to wild and cultivated strawberry, Fragaria x ananassa Duchesne (Legard et al. 2003).
