AbstractBackgroundPR domain containing 16 (PRDM16) is a key transcriptional regulator in the development of craniofacial, adipose, and neural tissues. Our lab identified PRDM16 expression in the epithelial cells of the Kölliker's organ (KO) that starts at ~E13.5 and is maintained until KO disappearance. A transgenic mouse model that carries a gene trap

Protein PRDM16 and its importance for adipose tissue (literature review)
Currently, in Russia and in the world, there is an increase in the proportion of overweight and obese people among the population, which contributes to an increase in the number of socially significant diseases.

Prdm16 is required for normal palatogenesis in mice [PDF]
Transcriptional cofactors are essential to the regulation of transforming growth factor beta (TGFbeta) superfamily signaling and play critical and widespread roles during embryonic development, including craniofacial development. We describe the cleft secondary palate 1 (csp1) N-ethyl-N-nitrosourea-induced mouse model of non-syndromic cleft palate ...

Transcriptional Control of Brown Fat Determination by PRDM16 [PDF]
Brown fat cells are specialized to dissipate energy and can counteract obesity; however, the transcriptional basis of their determination is largely unknown. We show here that the zinc-finger protein PRDM16 is highly enriched in brown fat cells compared to white fat cells.

TSH promotes adiposity by inhibiting the browning of white fat
Adiposity is caused by an imbalance between energy intake and consumption. Promotion of the browning of white fat increases energy expenditure and could combat adiposity.

Prdm16 is a physiologic regulator of hematopoietic stem cells [PDF]
AbstractFetal liver and adult bone marrow hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) renew or differentiate into committed progenitors to generate all blood cells. PRDM16 is involved in human leukemic translocations and is expressed highly in some karyotypically normal acute myeloblastic leukemias.

Influence without Presence: PRDM16 Casts Destiny [PDF]
Chromatin modifications play an important role in cortical neurogenesis. In this issue, Baizabal et al. (2018) show how PRDM16, a histone methyltransferase, influences upper layer neuron production and migration by pre-setting enhancer activity within the developmental radial glial lineage.
