Processing of preribosomal RNA in Saccharomyces cerevisiae [PDF]
Most, if not all RNAs, are transcribed as precursors that require processing to gain functionality. Ribosomal RNAs (rRNA) from all organisms undergo both exo- and endonucleolytic processing.

Structural and mechanistic insights into ribosomal ITS2 RNA processing by nuclease-kinase machinery
Precursor ribosomal RNA (pre-rRNA) processing is a key step in ribosome biosynthesis and involves numerous RNases. A HEPN (higher eukaryote and prokaryote nucleotide binding) nuclease Las1 and a polynucleotide kinase Grc3 assemble into a tetramerase ...

The Deafness-Associated Mitochondrial DNA Mutation at Position 7445, Which Affects tRNASer(UCN) Precursor Processing, Has Long-Range Effects on NADH Dehydrogenase Subunit ND6 Gene Expression [PDF]
The pathogenetic mechanism of the deafness-associated mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) T7445C mutation has been investigated in several lymphoblastoid cell lines from members of a New Zealand pedigree exhibiting the mutation in homoplasmic form and from control

Eukaryotic rRNA Modification by Yeast 5-Methylcytosine-Methyltransferases and Human Proliferation-Associated Antigen p120. [PDF]
Modified nucleotide 5-methylcytosine (m5C) is frequently present in various eukaryotic RNAs, including tRNAs, rRNAs and in other non-coding RNAs, as well as in mRNAs. RNA:m5C-methyltranferases (MTases) Nop2 from S.

Structural and functional analysis of a plant nucleolar RNA chaperone-like protein
Ribosome biogenesis is a key process in all eukaryotic cells that requires hundreds of ribosome biogenesis factors (RBFs), which are essential to build the mature ribosomes consisting of proteins and rRNAs.

The Mitochondrial Myopathy, Encephalopathy, Lactic Acidosis, and Stroke-like Episode Syndrome-associated Human Mitochondrial tRNALeu(UUR) Mutation Causes Aminoacylation Deficiency and Concomitant Reduced Association of mRNA with Ribosomes [PDF]
The pathogenetic mechanism of the mitochondrial tRNALeu(UUR) A3243G transition associated with the mitochondrial myopathy, encephalopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes (MELAS) syndrome has been investigated in transmitochondrial cell lines ...

Post-transcriptional regulation of ribosome biogenesis in yeast
Most microorganisms are exposed to the constantly and often rapidly changing environment. As such they evolved mechanisms to balance their metabolism and energy expenditure with the resources available to them.

Yeast Nop15p is an RNA-binding protein required for pre-rRNA processing and cytokinesis [PDF]
Nop15p is an essential protein that contains an RNA recognition motif (RRM) and localizes to the nucleoplasm and nucleolus. Cells depleted of Nop15p failed to synthesize the 25S and 5.8S rRNA components of the 60S ribosomal subunit, and exonucleolytic 5' processing of 5.8S rRNA was strongly inhibited.
