Drivers of a Summertime Combined High Air Pollution Event of Ozone and PM2.5 in Taiyuan, China

open access: yesAtmosphere
Combined air pollution of ozone and PM2.5 often occurs in coal-based cities of China such as Taiyuan City. In this study, the Weather Research and Forecasting/Chemistry (WRF-Chem) model was employed to simulate a combined high air pollution event of ...

Portable Low-Frequency Noise Reduction Device for Both Small Open and Closed Spaces

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2016
Noise pollution has been given more attention due to its negative impacts on human health and disease. The portable low-frequency noise reduction device we developed in this research can provide an effective way for solving low-frequency noise pollution ...

Improving Precipitation Estimation Using Convolutional Neural Network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Precipitation process is generally considered to be poorly represented in numerical weather/climate models. Statistical downscaling (SD) methods, which relate precipitation with model resolved dynamics, often provide more accurate precipitation estimates

An Ensemble Version of the E‐OBS Temperature and Precipitation Data Sets

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 2018
We describe the construction of a new version of the Europe‐wide E‐OBS temperature (daily minimum, mean, and maximum values) and precipitation data set. This version provides an improved estimation of interpolation uncertainty through the calculation of ...

Substrate specificity of Burkholderia pseudomallei multidrug transporters is influenced by the hydrophilic patch in the substrate‐binding pocket

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Multidrug transporters BpeB and BpeF from the Gram‐negative pathogen Burkholderia pseudomallei have a hydrophilic patch in their substrate‐binding pocket. Drug susceptibility tests and growth curve analyses using an Escherichia coli recombinant expression system revealed that the hydrophilic patches of BpeB and BpeF are involved in the substrate ...

A Uniformity Index for Precipitation Particle Axis Ratios Derived from Radar Polarimetric Parameters for the Identification and Analysis of Raindrop Areas

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
A uniformity index for the axis ratios (Uar) derived from dual polarization weather radar data is proposed for raindrop area identification and analysis. The derivation of this new parameter is based on radar scattering simulations and assumptions.

Rainfall Estimates on a Gridded Network (REGEN) – a global land-based gridded dataset of daily precipitation from 1950 to 2016 [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2020
We present a new global land-based daily precipitation dataset from 1950 using an interpolated network of in situ data called Rainfall Estimates on a Gridded Network – REGEN.

Optimal Ranking Regime Analysis of Intra- to Multidecadal U.S. Climate Variability. Part II: Precipitation and Streamflow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In Part I of this paper, the optimal ranking regime (ORR) method was used to identify intradecadal to multidecadal (IMD) regimes in U.S. climate division temperature data during 1896–2012.

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Changes in the Distribution Pattern of PM2.5 Pollution over Central China

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
The extent of PM2.5 pollution has reduced in traditional polluted regions such as the North China Plain (NCP), Yangtze River Delta (YRD), Sichuan Basin (SB), and Pearl River Delta (PRD) over China in recent years.
