Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Precision N-glycoproteomics reveals the essential role of the extracellular matrix in tropomyosin allergy in a mouse model

open access: yesFood Science and Human Wellness
Approximately 2.5% of the global population experience allergic reactions to seafood, making it one of the most prevalent and life-threatening allergies.

Integrated genomic and proteomic profiling reveals insights into chemoradiation resistance in cervical cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A comprehensive genomic and proteomic analysis of cervical cancer revealed STK11 and STX3 as a potential biomarkers of chemoradiation resistance. Our study demonstrated EGFR as a therapeutic target, paving the way for precision strategies to overcome treatment failure and the DNA repair pathway as a critical mechanism of resistance.

The precision principle: driving biological self-organization

open access: yesFrontiers in Network Physiology
In this perspective, we introduce the Precision Principle as a unifying theoretical framework to explain self-organization across biological systems.

Feasibility of a ctDNA multigenic panel for non‐small‐cell lung cancer early detection and disease surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Plasma‐based detection of actionable mutations is a promising approach in lung cancer management. Analysis of ctDNA with a multigene NGS panel identified TP53, KRAS, and EGFR as the most frequently altered, with TP53 and KRAS in treatment‐naïve patients and TP53 and EGFR in previously treated patients.

Precision evaluation of 2 CT-based radiostereometric analysis systems in a cadaver study

open access: yesActa Orthopaedica
Background and purpose: To address the limitations of radiostereometric imaging and to eliminate the need for intraoperative marker placement, CT-based radiostereometric analysis (CT-RSA) software systems have been developed.

Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).

Artificially induced and precise small-scaled infection with Plasmopara viticola on living vines

open access: yesOENO One
Grapevine downy mildew, caused by the oomycete Plasmopara viticola, affects most of the world’s finest and widely planted grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) cultivars and is typically controlled by fungicides, which are often applied in excess.

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.
