INFLUENCE OF PREGNENOLONE-16α-CARBONITRILE ON SPERMATOGENESIS AND ON THE SPERMATOGENIC ACTIVITY OF PREGNENOLONE

Journal of Endocrinology, 1973
SUMMARY In hypophysectomized rats, treatment with pregnenolone (pregn-5-en-3β-ol-20-one) for 14 days prevented testicular atrophy, maintained spermatogenesis but did not counteract Leydig cell atrophy. Spermatogenic activity was abolished when a 16α-nitrile group was attached to the pregnenolone molecule, but pregnenolone-16α-carbonitrile (PCN) did not

PREGNENOLONE THERAPY IN UVEITIS

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1951
THE DRAMATIC suppression of certain inflammatory reactions by cortisone and corticotropin (ACTH) is now well known. In the search for effective substitutes for these drugs, numerous other substances have been subjected to clinical trial by various investigators.

Pregnenolone and Pregnenolone Sulfate Metabolismin Vivoand Uterine Extraction at Midgestation

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1974
ABSTRACT The in vivo metabolism and uterine extraction of pregnenolone and pregnenolone sulfate have been studied during a continuous infusion of the radioactive steroids in 5 women at midgestation. The blood metabolic clearance rates of pregnenolone and pregnenolone sulfate were 3310 ± 435 (se) 1/day and 272 ± 27 (se) 1/day.

Pregnenolone, 17-OH-Pregnenolone, and Testosterone in Plasma of Patients with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1976
Both pregnenolone and 17-OH-pregnenolone were found to be higher in the plasma of patients with poorly controlled congential adrenal hyperplasia than in normal subjects. The plasma levels of these precursor steroids were significantly correlated with urinary 17-ketosteroid and pregnanetriol excretion and with plasma testosterone. The mechanism where by

Dehydroepiandrosterone and Pregnenolone

1999
Steroid hormones play a multifactorial role in human physiology. They facilitate coordinative processes that enable neural, endocrine, immune, and metabolic systems, separately or collectively, to operate in solving problems of survival and reproduction.

The regional brain distribution of the neurosteroids pregnenolone and pregnenolone sulfate following intravenous infusion

The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 1997
We have studied the distribution of the neurosteroids pregnenolone (Pe) and pregnenolone sulfate (PeS) in seven brain regions, and plasma and fat tissues in male adult rats following the intravenous infusion of 14 mg/kg Pe and 18 mg/kg PeS, respectively.

METABOLISM OF PREGNENOLONE AND PREGNENOLONE SULPHATE IN HUMAN FOETAL LIVER TISSUE IN VITRO

Acta Endocrinologica, 1974
ABSTRACT The metabolism of pregnenolone and pregnenolone sulphate was studied in incubations with minced foetal liver tissue. In most of the incubations, non-radioactive substrates were used, and the identification and quantitative determination of the metabolites formed was carried out by gasliquid chromatography and gas chromatography – mass ...
