EMAS position statement: Managing women with premature ovarian failure

Premature ovarian failure (also known as premature menopause) is defined as menopause before the age of 40. It can be "natural" or "iatrogenic" such as after bilateral oophorectomy. It may be either primary or secondary.

ABSTRACT Objective Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), the loss of ovarian function before age 40, increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, low bone mineral density, dementia and psychological distress. Lifestyle interventions reduce chronic disease risk in other populations and, with hormone therapy, may improve health outcomes in POI.

Selective autophagy pathways in ageing and neurodegeneration: Emerging roles for mitophagy and nucleophagy

As we age, cells gradually accumulate damage, which can contribute to disease and neurodegeneration. This review explores how two cellular recycling processes, mitophagy and nucleophagy, remove damaged mitochondria and nuclear material, respectively, to maintain cell health and long‐term neuronal homeostasis.
